Airbox Mod???

You might just want to skip all the cutting on the stock air box since you will not be happy until you get an intake such as K & N, Volant, or Mac.

Good luck ....

What do you expect to gain?

In theory, the performance should increase "some"; how much, I have no clue.

Yep, you will gain 2.76 RWHP by my calculations

lol
how did u figure tht?
well how come ford and other manufacturers put these bulky things on cars?

Some people have waze, some do not:)

just a new air filter helps alot. spend a couple bucks and pick up an adapter on ebay for a cone filter and if it doesnt come with a cone filter... then go to autozone and pick on up for $20. i made my adapter and strapped an autozone filter on. keeps mud out... not sure about water... but it works really good and definitely added some power. except now with 33's.... you couldnt tell. but when my truck had stock wheels it was nice. its not an "AMAZING" difference.. but if you race a friend and just barely lose, after the filter swap, you might stand a chance to win. of course i had a muddy clogged up box filter and swapped to a nice clean cone filter.. so that probly helped the improvement.

dude u got a sick explorer.. i hope mine looks like it by the end of the summer. but yea tht sounds like a good idea... i jst dont wanna be spending alot bc i need to buy tires and rims

the cut is quick and easy and about as cheap as mods go.
Do that and then continue from there.
You can always get an intake later.
( which you will :) )

haha yea. well how much is that adaptor thing?

My friend has one he gave to me it fits my 2001 ST not sure if it will fit your MAF tho here is a picture of it with a filter attached too it i'll sell it too ya :)

dude... u have a pic thts soo sick.. damn so much info on this website.. god explorers are awesome.

monmix is right.... just swiss cheese or chop a bigger hole in the box for now. the adapters arent too expensive. i didnt buy one tho.. so i'm not sure. rims and tires are better than an intake anyday. if you go with a street truck, then looks are more important than shaving 1/16 of a second off 1/4 mile time. and if you go off road truck, then bigger tires is more important than a lil more power. if/when you put a cone filter on, have a buddy rev your engine while you stand by the filter... it makes a sweet suction noise, and your exhaust rumbles a lil more/deeper.

yea dude... i think im going to do it.. i went on autozone.com and found an adaptor for 4.99.. u cant beat tht, and if i get a lil cheapy filter its all good. i also found a filter adaptor combo for 12.95 on ebay with a buy it now. aric where did u get ur bumper. bc i got my stock one on and they always look better when there taken off. oh yea how much lift do you have in total aric?

i have about 4 inches. its the budget lift alot of guys on this board have. got all my information here. its a 2 inch body lift made for the 91-94 explorer ($100) from summit racing. just needs different bolts. and torsion twist up front (free) and extended shackles for the rear($75) from desertrat.com and add a leafs to level it out a bit more in the rear($30-35) from summit racing. 4 inches for a lil more than $200. rims and tires were what set me back the most. the bumper was like $100 maybe excluding lights. my dad brought me home a bunch of tubing and i got bored one day and decided to make a bumper. $100 was spent on chop saw blades, mig wire and some additional steel plating. i dunno how old you are, but if your still in high school or college, try and take a welding course. then you can make alot of things and all you need is the steele. save lots of money in labor. the only thing i'm going to pay someone to do to my truck is regear it and put in a rear locker. i could do the locker myself probly but i figure why not let someone else do it while they already have it open back there. you have the link to the $5 adapter from autozone? my adapter is pretty ruff and i should replace it with something machined because i'm too lazy to grind what needs to be grinded.

yea dude im 17.. i think ur 17 too. im pretty good at working with stuff, and my cars still alive bc of it. right now i have a 3 inch spindle lift with leafs in the back, and i have about another inch in the front from a TT. right now im hopeing to get some longer bolt for my torsion bars bc they are all stripped out bc i took this crazy jump.. (hah the front was sagging for while until i tightened them agian) and then i wanna hopefully get about 3 inches outta them. i heard its not as bad if u have 2wd, and then im going to get some shackles for the rear. and now that i found an inexpensive intake ill soon have that. then hopefully get sum rockcrawler rims with 33X12.50 kuhmo MT or Dunlop MT.. idk yet. dude i wanna get a bumper that looks like yours.. its soo sick, it looks professional.

thanks alot. i think i'm going to hold out for a mac intake. but that $5 adapter is tempting. 2wd trucks are easier to lift, and cheaper. but thats alright. theres no need for a prerunner out here in the midwest and i need a front driveshaft in the winter. but if i were out west i dont think i would have been a 4x4 kid. good luck on your rig. spend the extra money and get good m/t's the first time. crappy ones will wear out faster and you'll spend more in the long term. i wish i would have got m/t's instead of a/t's but o well. i dont know anything about either of those m/t's, but i think a member on here (toddious) runs the khumos on a 15x10 rim and they look pretty sweet and i'm pretty sure hes been running them a while so they wear pretty good i'm assuming.
