I went to Circuit City and purchased a Python 700 alarm, which they installed. After Installation, when I press the unlock button, not just the driver door, but ALL doors unlock, the interior lights do not come on, the headlights flash, but do not stay on like they used to. Also sometimes, the disarm button will disarm the alarm but will not unlock the doors and I have to use the key.

Does anyone have one of these alarms installed without losing features as I am experiencing? Is the problem the alarm, the installation or the truck?

Thanks,

As for the door locks unless the installer wires directly to the drivers door lock motor it will unlock all the doors. Reson being when an alarm gets installed, the installer taps into the lock/unlock wired from the switch. So any aftermarket alarm will do this. The dome light is also a feature from the factory. However both of hese can be done with your python, but most shops will charge you extra. The locks may get a little spendy since they have to wire into the door.

Thanks Aaron, one last question: I've had this alarm installed for 2 days now and I started carrying my old remote because the Python always disams the alarm when I press the unlock button, but does not always unlock the doors. I'm puzzled as to why it works most of the time, but not all of the time.

Any ideas?

I would check the connection or it might be a defective alarm. I have an alarm in mine and I have never had this problem. Does this alarm have a remote start? also check to see where they grabed the main power for the alarm at. The new explorers have a low current 12 volt constant at the ign. switch and cant power an alarm. I ran a wire directley to the battery.

Aaron, I thought I would take your advice at take a look under the hood to see if I could find where the power was going from the alarm unit. I pull the hood lever and NOTHING!!! I can no longer open the hood to my truck!! I'm taking it back there tonight but I doubt if they'll be able to do anything.

Thanks again.

Dont all Explorers come with keyless entry and a security system standard?? I have an Eddie Bauer and it has a security system from the factory.

Man, thats just a flashing light. The last 3 cars I owned had that too, but it doesn't do much. Ford sells an alarm as an accessory but you really don't have much protection off the lot.

The Python 700 has a siren, it gives a warning beep if someone slightly bumps it and goes off if its hit hard. It also has 2-way remote so it notifies you if your alarm has been tripped. My Alpine W200 arrives today so I just want a little more protection.

One other thing to check also while your going to ***** at them. is before you go in look under the dash, if you see wires that go to the alarm have them fix that. A good alarm install you will NOT be able to notice that its even in there. Otherwise a good thief will be able just to look under the dash and pull it right out.

Below is the wiring information for your truck notice that on the 12 constant its only rated at 15 amps that is not enough for it. Even if it is just a plain alarm and no remote start I would run a new battery lead anyways.

And the factory keyless is just a glorified keyless that gives the unlocks the door and turns on the lights. The blinking light on the top of the dash is for the PATs key. If you notice it even blinks until you turn the key on. Where as most alarms the blinking light shuts off after you disarm it. However that is the only blinking light i used due to not wanting to drill any more holes in the dash.

As for your W200 nice choice. I have had one in my ex for about 6 months now. I love it.

Aaron - I got into the hood, but I could not convince the snot-nosed installer to connect power to the battery, he says he is using constant, and current can't be a problem. Is the current requirement written down anywhere? I don't have an install guide but I can download one from the Directed site.

And yes, I like the W200. I considered the Pioneer D and X series and the Eclipse, but I really don't need another GPS, my Magellan Roadmate 800 is great, plus going from 22W per channel to 50W per channel plus Sirius, iPod controls and DVD (which I'll never use) all for around $820.00 sounds like a good investment to me. But the name "Alpine" on a car radio is a big "steal me" sign.

Oh yes, the KKM Intake is coming today too!

OK, i know that the python is a Directed Electronics brand so i thought id ask my question...

I have a 06 Eddie bauer with everything but nav and the dvd and i have a clifford matrix 50.5x. when i unlock the doors with the car on at night (remote start), i dont know if it is unlocked or not because nothing flashes. i have autolamp and i dont want to have to constantly turn the switch on and off, that defeats the purpose. is there any other lights i can have it hooked up to so when i unlock the doors at night something will flash with the headlights on(parking, hazards...). my friend has a 03 yukon with the autolamp and when he starts his this head lights come on and the go off but the parking lights stay on and when you unlock/lock the doors the headlights flash. second, the liftgate window on the explorer does not open when you press the trunk button you have to push unlock then the trunk button to open it. how can this be fixed. third, when i used to unlock the doors with the key fob, the parking lights and fogs would come on. can i connect these to one of the dome outputs being as i dont use them because i like my fading dome lights to work?? and is there a way to get the fading dome lights to work with the alarm? i know this is a lot but anything would help. thanks

1. the only thing i can think of is to integrate the alarm, so that its dis-ables the auto lamps during remote start. This can be done with a relay, some wiring, and finidng the correct wiring at the light switch.

2. The lift gate issue is due to how the factory is set up. The release for the window ONLY works when the truck is unlocked. When the alarm was wired in they use the wires that actuate the factory release. So to sum it up Can not be done.

3. Your alarm has a dome light output. You could wire this in to your parking lights/fog lights so that when you dis-arm your alarm it turns on your parking lights and fogs. Most shops will charge extra to install these types of features. A good installer could get it to work. Your Best buy or circuit city may say they cant, but it can be done. Once again with a few relays.
