Can someone tell me real quick what alarm that is with the Knight Rider strobe light above the rear view mirror. I'm assuming that is part of an alarm. Thanks.

Those lights are usually sold separately from alarms. You can buy them and wire them to come on whenever: when the car is off, on, door open, etc.

thanks...i just liked those a lot when the car is off, esp. at night.

Check out http://www.varad.com. They make the "Knight Rider" lights your talking about.

Here are a couple of pics:

Actually, I saw a few different kinds at an O'Reillys a few weeks ago. Autozone and Pepboys usually have a poor selection.

How are those Varad stick on light thingys powered. I don't see anythign about power wires or anything..are they solar or something.

those KITT lights are also available from JCWhitney

hornz2000,

I've had both of the ones in the pictures. There are three wires: Ground, Power, Constant Power.

where do you run the wires...right down the middle of the windshield??

It really depends on where you mount it. If you mount it above the rear view mirror, you just tuck the wires up under the headliner, behind the A-pillar, then under the dash to you power connections. It's a really easy install

I just got the Varad gothic...laser blue led scanner.
I just got my new alarm installed, where the hell do I go about looking for where to wire in this puppy????

I don't wanna ask the install guy cuz I know I'm going to get a speech. He gave me one when I asked about these scanners "they attract negative attention to your vehicle blah blah blah" Yeah so will my system.....once I get the sucker in.

I pulled this from the Varad web site under "Tech support"
How does an L.E.D. Scanner work with an alarm system?
-Most aftermarket alarm systems have a grounded output when armed. The yellow sense wire of the L.E.D. Scanner can be connected to this output. When the alarm is activated, the output will turn to ground and activate the L.E.D. Scanner. You should refer to the alarm manufacturer installation guide for the color of this output wire.

I'm having difficulty getting the L.E.D. Scanner to work with my alarm system.
-Step 1 Check to see that the black wire on the L.E.D. Scanner is grounded to the vehicle ground. Use a volt meter to test continuity if possible.

-Step 2 Check to see that the red wire on the L.E.D. Scanner is getting positive 12 volts. Use a volt meter to test if possible.

-Step 3 Now take the yellow L.E.D. Scanner wire and touch the vehicle ground or chassis. Does the L.E.D. Scanner turn on? If yes, then go to step 4. If not, go to step 5.

-Step 4 Check to see that the alarm system is providing a grounded output when armed. To do this you can use a volt meter to check continuity. If no ground is detected, then refer to the owner's manual to verify correct that you have selected the correct wire.

-Step 5 Disconnect the red and black wire from the vehicle. Now twist the black and yellow wire together. You can now verify if the L.E.D. Scanner is working by touching the red wire to 12volt positive and black/yellow wire to ground. This test can be performed directly at the L.E.D. Scanner. If it does work, then the wiring inside the vehicle was not correct.
