I've read all the threads dealing with the TT and shackle lift and am ready to go except for one thing. I've heard that your car may need to be aligned afterwards. If so, how serious is it and could I go awhile without getting my wheels aligned?

You will want to get one ASAP. With the change in suspension geometry, it is wise to get an alignment. If you take it out and theres no loud noise when turning/driving, then you should be ok for awhile.

What would be my main problem that needs alignment, just tire wear?

Yeah, tire wear & excess stress on balljoints - both costly repairs if you ignore the problem. A decent alignment shouldn't cost you much ($50-60) but will save you hundreds of dollars in suspension/tire repairs in the long run.
