I used this amazing site alot to keep my '93 explorer running...till it lost a duel with a GMC Yukon. sniff.

In her stead I have an '01 explorer sport with the following problem:

Periodically the power locks would not function. Now, the only switch that works is the rear-door unlock switch.

Also, the driver's side window will not work (making me one of the few people happy for the lack of rain). The passengerwindow functions from both driver and passenger side controls. There is a clicking under the dash when the pressing the driver's side window switch. Having repaired a window motor before, I would think the decline would have been more gradual if it were the bearings failing.

My hope is that these two issues are related somehow...Come on Ockham!

Any suggestions?

Thanks for any help.

(I've found suggestions about relays, but would not a relay failure knock out both windows and/or all power lock function? basing that on assumption, not knowledge)

Woe!

No leads?

Gotta say, I'm a bit lost with the electronics...I do best with duct tape and WD-40 problems...one when it moves and shouldn't, the other when something shouldn't move but does.

open your door, then push and hold down the window switch, whiile slowly closing the door. See if the window operates as the door is moved.

your problems most likely are a broken wires in the door post area on the driver's side. Different wires for each issue.... probably obvious damage to the cable/connectors.
