All you need to know about keyless entry

Oh...I thought the subject of the thread would justify itself. I actually just think I read it though. I am looking for the keyless entry RAp module and where it is located. I just r ead that it is located on the passenger 3rd pillar below the seat belt. Flashlight and a mirror should get me my code that I refuse to pay 50 bucks to get the keyless entry :)

does it matter what fob you have as long as it a ford? can you program any fob to any ford? cause i found one at work but i dont know what for it goes to so i was gonna try and program it for my 99X .:us::salute:

Thanks

I was able to access my keyless code and program my fob and turn off auto lock feature Thanks for the great info:exp:

To program the hand held remotes:
Unlock all doors using the power door lock/unlock control. Insert a key and turn the ignition from the 1 (OFF/LOCK) to the 3 (ON) position and cycle between 1 (OFF/LOCK) and 3 (ON) eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the 3 (ON) position. The locks will cycle to confirm that the programming mode has been entered. Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. The locks will cycle once to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.) Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters. NOTE: All fobs must be programmed on the same time for all fobs to work. The locks will cycle once to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed. When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn the ignition to the 1 (OFF/LOCK) position or wait 20 seconds. Again the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.

Should this work on my 2006 Mountaineer? I'm going to try it when my husband gets home with the truck so I guess I'll find out either way.

hi...my name is saskia and i'm here for the first time, we have some really difficult problems with our explorer '96...i'm from the netherlands, oké thats a long distance but i could really use some help...and if it's from overseas i don't care...

our remote controller is nog functioning well...it's not working, our explorer is an american explorer but is rebuilded to european custome..with a robert bosch alarmsystem...

we need the code from the car so it can be read in the remote controller of the car, i don't know if you called it the same way but it's the thing that opens the car from a distance...

If i read this beginpost, our code from our explorer is in the car itself...does that count for my explorer as well?? so could i get the code then and get it on the special pc for the dealer so he can read my remote controller in...do you know what i mean... i'm sorry for my bad english...

can somebody help me... my car is useless if i may believe the dealer!!!! but my car is perfectly in order, nothing wrong with it....but now it stands by a dealer that says it's useless... i can't believe that that problem can't be resolved....

sorry to do it in your topic....

thnxx in advance....

I have a 2000 Explorer XLT that I just got last Thursday. I have the code for the keypad on the door, and that works just fine. I also have two keyfobs that I'd really like to program. I turn the key from off and on 8 times to get it into programming mode. Nothing. I took it to the dealer and they tried to do it. Nothing. I know I have the capability to use a kefob, but I was just wondering what may be wrong that causes it to not go into programming mode. Oh, and if it's relevant, the autolock feature (locks the doors when the transmission is put into or passes through Reverse) doesn't work and it won't respond to an attempt to program it. Thanks.

2002 explorer key pad code

I have a 2002 explorer and would like to know where the computer module is located. I need to get the key pad code off of it. A picture would be helpful.

Xan, This worked great....I bought my explorer used and never had the code......10 minutes after reading your post and it's programmed with my code......my hat is off to you!

keyless code does not work

I forgot the keylees entry code. I was able to find it in the location desribed but it will not open the doors. It used to work but no longer does.

remote code doesn't work

Sparky, did you follow the reprogramming instructions...? Xan posted the instructions earlier on this thread.......you need to do that first. If that doesn't work, I'd look at the RAP module for beiing bad?

My daughter just bought a 2003 xls and the dealer wants $65.00 to retrieve the key code. Does anyone know where the module is on a 2003 so I can retrieve the code?

Programming 1995 Explorer to use 2003 key fob

I have a key fob that belonged to my Dad's 2003 F350. Would that work on a 1995 Explorer? So far, I can't get it to recognize the key fob after I cycle the key on and off 5 times.

How to find the Security Keyless Keypad Code on the 1995-2001 Ford Explorer or Mountaineer and how to use the Keypad functions.

When your vehicle was newly purchased from the dealer it came with a card in the owner’s manual packet that had the keypad code on it. The packet is often lost and/or discarded over time and as the vehicle trades owners the code to the Keyless Entry is lost. Ford Dealers wants some big money to get the code for you by plugging in their computer to retrieve the code or using the following method. Luckily there is a much easier and cheaper way for you to get the code and you do not need any tools or automotive knowledge. I’ll show you how and where to find the code and how to reset the Keyless Entry back to the factory code or your personal code number.

How to find the Security Keyless Keypad Code on the 1995-2001 Ford Explorer or Mountaineer and how to use the Keypad functions. The factory code is also printed on a label which is installed on the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) Module. This is the module that controls the keyless entry system. It is located in the left rear quarter behind the removable panel (see photo). You will need to turn the two thumb screws counter clockwise and take the plastic panel off to be able to see the unit. A flashlight may be helpful in seeing the code. You are looking for the module and the 5 digit code on it like the one shown below.

Now that you’ve got the code I’ll tell you how to use the Keyless entry and set-up your own code.Make sure when pressing the controls on the keyless entry keypad you press the middle of the buttons to ensure good contact with the controls.
Programming your own personal entry code
1. Enter the factory-set code (keypad will illuminate when first digit is pressed).
2. Press the 1/2 control within five seconds of step 1.
3. Enter your personal 5-digit code. Enter each digit within five seconds of the previous one.
Your personal code does not replace the factory-set code. You can use either code to unlock your vehicle. Each time you set a new personal code the module will erase the previous one in favor of the new code. The factory-set code can not be erased.
Erasing your own personal code or a prior owners code and leaving only the factory-set code
1. Enter the factory-set code.
2. Press the 1/2 control within five seconds of step one 1.
3. Press the 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time within five seconds of step two.
The system will now only respond to the factory-set code.
Unlocking the doors with the Keyless Entry System
1. Enter either the factory-set code or the personal code (Each digit must be pressed within five seconds of the prior digit). The interior lights will illuminate as soon as the first valid digit is pressed.
2. To unlock all the doors, enter the factory set code or a personal code and press the 3/4 control within five seconds of the drivers door unlocking.
Locking the doors wit the Keyless Entry System
1. Press 7/8 and 9/0 controls at the same time. The 5-digit code does not have to be entered to lock the doors.
Deactivating/Activating Auto-lock
1. Enter the five 5-digit code.
2. Press and hold 7/8 control.
3. Press and release 3/4 control while holding 7/8 control.
4. Release 7/8 control.
The horn will chirp once if auto-lock was deactivated or twice if auto-lock was activated.

I have a 1998 with the keypad...I was told by the dealer that Remote Entry (via key Fob) was not part of my "Package" ...Is he blowing smoke or could I purchase 2 Ford fobs from Ebay and program those to work with the above instructions?
Steve n Oklahoma

Thank you, thank you, thank you. As soon as I first saw this thread I went out and disabled the Autolock Feature. I can't count the times I got out and shut the door, went to the back door, couldn't open it, opened the front again, unlocked the doors, then went back to get in the rear. I know I sound lazy but it's the little things that matter most sometimes.
I didn't have to pay to get the code from the dealer when I first bought my Ex, but I felt like an idiot when I had to call him again 3 days later cause I lost the paper I wrote it on. After recently putting it back on the road after a 1.5 year out-of-comission, I was happy to not have to call him a third time.
Thanks again.
