Well, I drove it about 25 miles today. It shifts fine, the pressure looks good and its not getting hot. But, the speedometer is not working. I'm glad I have not replaced the skid plate yet cause tomorrow I get to mess around with the speedo cable.

Well, I figured out the problem with the speedometer. The o-ring was pinched and would not allow the gear to seat properly. Now I just have to find a replacement o-ring and it should be good to go.

Thanks for the update! You could buy O rings in any plumbing store, hardware store or auto parts store.

It has to be a special O-ring that can handle ATF. I hit Napa and AutoZone today and no luck. Going to the dealer tomorrow to get one. I also know a transmission shop who has them. I was going to just use sealant, then the thought it might be a little difficult to get it out if the need arose.

Nope, its orange and about 1-1/2" in diameter. I picked one up at the dealer today for under $5.00. If they had the right one at Napa, it would have cost less than $1.00.

dorman has an assortment pack of the orange o-rings made for fuel and hydro fluid. they have a special name, i cant remember it.. that makes me mad. but advance auto and im pretty sure napa and autozone carry it. oh well you already got one from ford, just thought id throw that in there.

yeah.. but we have a pack of orange ones that have a weird name. now im gonna hafta go in to work on my day off just to read the back of a dorman package. does that mean i have some form of OCD? cause im not gonna sleep tonight trying to remember what theyre called, maybe im crazy, not just obsessive compulsive. but anyways.. yeah brooklynbay i saw those too, ford recommended for hydro/oil.

Well, yes it is......and yes you do. : The transfer case is working quite well, by the way. It told me while I was under there speaking softly to it that it wanted to visit its old master, a green Wrangler that doesn't seem to have the time to come out with us anymore. (I am starting to sound like Iz).
All these guys keep talking about Ford parts, but my transfer case is a New Process which used to reside under Brother of Jefe's Jeep. If I had gotten a Ford o-ring it would have cost less than $2.00, but I needed one from a friggin J#$p. Besides, I am good for about two auto part store searches before I head to the dealer for something I know is pretty inexpensive.
Its all back together and appears to be working fine. The next Truckhaven trip is in three days, so I guess I will find out then.

For the record, Viton o-rings (as well as Buna, Nitrile, rubber, et. al.) can be found at nearly any hydraulic supply house... Parker/Aeroquip/Eaton dealers can all get them... they may not have them on the shelf, but they're pennies each for standard sizes and standard materials and generally don't take more than a day or two to get. I hate paying through the nose for cheap stuff like o-rings or c-clips when I know they're pennies each. I'm cheap like that.

I know all that, but I did not want to miss a trip to Truckhaven waiting for a cheap part, so I spent the money where I knew they would have them..the dealer. At least the parts dude was polite this time, usually they act like they are doing you a favor just speaking to you.
