Hey guys,

Well, I got 2 12's and a small 500w amp just for a little bit better bass in the Explorer. First time ever messing with audio in cars, but I've got it all done, got all the wire run and everything, but I've encountered a couple problems.

First problem is I have no idea what color wires hook into the back speakers. I've searched and read every wire color thread at this place, and with no luck. I've been to the provided links, looked for the books at the auto stores, and none of them have helped. So could anyone enlighten me on the back speaker wire colors for a 2000 Sport? I need to know their colors to splice them with the subs for the high level output since I have the stock HU.

Second problem is this remote switch. We tried plugging it into the radio fuse panel, but that didn't work as the amp didn't come on. I also don't know the color of the wire to the power of the head unit; anyone know? And I read on several threads I searched through that the radio power wire is only 5 volts, and the amp requires 12 volts, so how do I go around that? I want to install a switch that will let me manually cut the amp on and off, but I can't figure out where the remote wire is supposed to go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I feel like a moron for asking these questions, I'm sure some of you guys know this stuff pretty well so if possible help me out. Hit me up on email at wenjosh99@hotmail.com.

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

The remote on should run from a 12v postive source to the "Remote" on terminal on the amp. As far as the speaker wiring i found a chart on the web that stated "This is typical wiring". I dont have a diagram for a 2000. I would verfify that you have found ALL the correct wires before hooking it up.
Rt Rear
+=Black\purple stripe
- =Orange\maroon stripe

Lft Rear
+ =Grey\Lt blue stripe
- = Brown\yellow stripe

The chart states that the Black with a pink stripe is the positive 12v comming from the ignition. that could be used to trigger the amp when the ignition is on or you could put a switch in line to turn it on-off. I would verify that this is a positive hot lead with a voltmeter or test light.

How I found the wires on my truck i just spliced right into the wires from behind the speakers. Easy 123 didn't even have to pull out the radio.

As far as the amp goes you do have a power wire fromthe battery to the 12v input on the amp correct?
Then the wire you want a switch hooked to is the remote wire which you can take from the power wire on the radio, Its just to turn the amp on the wire from the battery actually feeds the main power to the amp. You can a a switch on the remote wire before the amp and switch on/off

Yes you are correcct. The 12v in from the battery feeds the amp the power. The "Remote On" Terminal just turns the amp on. It would be best to find a hot lead that is only on with the ignition. Then go ahead and wire a switch in line with that. Reason being if you forget to switch the amp off at least it will shut down when the ignition is off. Otherwise you may run your battery down.

I was checking out stock wire colors at this Dead Link Removed and they don't look correct for the 98 I have. Plus the column text says"GM" colors. Anyway I documented my stock 16 pin colors and the relevant ones are:
Rrear- Brown/Pink
Rrear+ Orange/Red
Lrear- Tan/Yellow
Lrear+ Grey/Blue
12volt constant Green/Purple
12volt switched Yellow/Black (use for remote on)

Yeah thats the chart i used. I wasnt sure if it was a typo or not. Or if the whole chart was incorrect. I think he got the speakers fiqured out anyhow but the remote on wire is what he needs now.

i ran a new power wire from the battery for the +12 to the amp.... and then in the fuse box by the drivers door there were 2 wires coming out of the fuses that were already there... get a testlight and find one that only comes on when the ignition is in the on posistion.... oh and dont forget to fuse the +12v from the battery.... woulnt want to start your car on fire would you.... i ran the wires down the frame rail and then up underneath the carpet in the rear... drilled a small hole to let the wires come up through the floor...
