Ok. So I got a 96 Explorer XLS with the "Semi-premium" (no sub) sound system. I installed my CD all fine and just have the amp bypass left. So I did all kinds of looking around and reading posts etc and found the amp bypass harness. So I ordered it and this is what it looks like...

So I go to install it just now and I find that I must have one of the only Explorers that I have heard of that has a different set of plugs on the amp! One end fits but the other doesn't. This is what it looks like...

Has any one come across this? Is there a different harness I need? And no I don't want to run new speaker wires or hardwire it because I'm doing this CD player install without cutting a single factory wire.

should be an in plug and an out plug with that amp, cause all that wire jumper/harness does is bypass the amp, but still using the stock connectors

Yes, I had that same problem. My solution:

Plug the end that fits in, but the other end off and chuck it. Run new cables back from your CD player making note of channel and polarity. Solder, or connect however you want to the corosponding wires at each location. Or just run new wire to the speakers. Thats really the best way to do it. Sorry that my directions aren't the clearest, but I'm in a hurry. I'll try to draw up a diagram later.

Hmm. Stupid Ford has to go and make mine different than all the rest. :thumbdwn: Maybe what I'll do is figure out the pin outs for that little connector and just hard wire the harness into the little connector.

Followup

Just a quick follow up. UPS delivered that Scosche harness today. I installed it and the amp bypass harness fit and worked fine.

haha well i just bought mine today to do this. because my stock speakers are distorting. and mine doesn't fit. i'm gonna return it tomorrow to my local ship and pick up what i need
