I have a 1994 Ex and recetly had a Sony headunit installed. Would have done it myself, but my parents said they would pay to have it installed so i figuired why not. Now I am going to install an amp and sub but I need to get to the preouts in the back ( I do know that they are there, made sure before buying) How do i get to these now? I don't know how to get the hu out. There are also some RCA cables hanging down under my dash, could these be cables put in by the installer? How can I find out if these are connected to my stereo?
Also, one is red, the other is white if that helps at all.

ok, i am not sure why you would have rca jacks hanging, maybe they are actually inputs, red is right white is left.

as for getting to the hu, you have a few options. since you will be running rca wires and a remote line to the hu, you best option is to remove the entire dash panel (alot easier than it sounds).

ok, first, you remove the ash tray. this includes the pulg and spade clip for the cig lighter, just make sure they dont touch eacvh other. then, on the bracket that held the ash tray in, there are 2 screws, remove them. the rest of the dash is pretty simple....it is all just held in bu clips. pry your fingers in there and pull. there are i think 2 on the left, one above steering wheel, 2 next to and 2 on the very right side. if you have a 4wd button, you will have to remove the wire harness from rear and you may have to remove wire harness from r. window defogger/r wiper/fog lights. also if you have an autoi trans, you will have to have the key in the on posit, shifter all the way sown in 1st and tilt down.you will be able to pop the radio out from behind but you may have to pry the clips on the sides loose with a flathead. installation is the reverse of removal, but i would put the radio in last.

i would have walked you through just removing the radio, buyt every radio is different and besides, if you have to run wires, this way gives you better access anyways.

You always seem to be there when I have a question, thanks again!! Is there way though to see if those RCA cables behind my dash are outputs coming from the hu? Would i be able to use a multimeter?

you mean, i always seem to be there late at night.....serious explorations eh....i apend at least 2 hrs a day seriously exploring this website!

sorry if the explination was brief but once you get into it, you'll see its really not that difficult. our 91 and 93 have diff dashes (just slightly) and i dont remember which is which, they changed in 92, otherwise i would be more specific.

I edited my last post at the same time that you posted yours. Could you look over some of the questions i put, or anyone? Thanks in advance.

still going. i am still waiting on those rear bumper brackets from fortknoxx, hes not returning e-mails or pm,s and its been 2 weeks. i got his home number so i might give him a call next week if i dont hear anything.

my tires/wheels are in the mail....used 32x11.5 a/t's on black 15x8 rockcrawlers (yuck! i hate rock crawling rims!)

got my shifter extenmsion from PA but having troubles installing it. for more info, you can check the thread on it

On my Sony HU the outputs hang.

Edit: Oh yeah, and the Sony HU's, like many aftermarket, just have flimsy plastic trims that go around them. Snap that off and there should be 1 little piece on each side, that the trim connects to. On mine, I just squeeze those 2 pieces together and pull. Gets the HU out, to get it in, just push it in. It's DIN in other words, the HU's come with the tools to get it out but most installers don't give them to you.

i dont know anything about multimeters but it would probably work....you will still have to get in there and run a remote line though uinless you plan to run a toggle switchg for your amp.....so while you are back there, i would worry about it....it doenst make sence to leave wires liek that, especially output wires, so the only thing i can think of is input, like for a playstation or vcr.....?

on my pioneer, all inpputs/outputs hang, but only like 6 in......hmmmm.....*cough*........none should hang much lower than that, and def not low enough to see.

I should have explained better. I cannot see them unless i break my neck to look under the dash and get a flashlight in there.

Well what HU do you have? I bet the models, from my year at least, have around the same rears.

ok, yeah, could be input. some companies just have jacks on the back of the hu, some have a small cable with jacks, and some have both. the sort cable is the nicest for tight spaces....thats probably what it is. it should hav a tag ion it somewhere, but like i said, since you have to run a remote line anyways.....

if you do just want to remove the hu, take off the trim ring and there will be a clip on either side of the hu...sometimes you can pry them with a flathead, sometimes you need the little tool that came with the hu, depends onhow secure it is. the little tools just slide in, release the clips, then you pull out. if you have custoim settings, write them down first because you will probably have to reset the unit.

btw, the back of most decent sonys are similar...i owned 2, an old mobile ES and a 2001 active BlackPanel.

Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it. Guess I should go to sleep, have to go to UNH for 8am for an open house
