Hey,
I am planning on buying 2 x 12" kicker comp VR's for the back of my explorer. I need to know what Amp i should get for these? They can handle 400 Watts each. But I dont want to put 400 watts to each one do I? Also, an amp that can put out 800 watts will cost me a fortune.
So what would be a good choice of an amp?
thanks alot guys,
Kendal

Well, an amp that says 400watts is usually peak, its not RMS so it won't be putting out 400 cconstantly. For a good, cheap amp, I would say a JBL 600.1 It puts out 600w x 1 @ 2 ohms, for 300 bucks. If you are unsure about putting all the power to the amp, merely turn down the gains on the amp. To get the 2 ohm load from the 2 subs you would want to get 2 ohm subs. Wire the subs in a series, and then parallel going to the amp.

Hey man,
Here are the Stats on the Subs:
-mica-filled polypropylene cone
-Santoprene rubber surround
-dual 2-ohm voice coils for wiring flexibility
-frequency response 25-500 Hz
-power range 50-400 watts RMS (200 watts RMS per coil)
-peak power handling 800 watts
-sensitivity 86.5 dB SPL
t-op-mount depth 5-13/16"
-sealed box volume 1.0-4.6 cubic feet
-ported box volume 2.0 cubic feet

since peak Power is 800? Does that make the Amp that you recommended not be enough? I want them to hit hard! But still want a good priced amp.
Thanks alot
Kendal

I would recommend the Kicker ZR240. The JBL is a bad amp, but from my experience with these speakers you dont want to get them to their max RMS. My girlfriend has (1) Comp VR in her car and it sounds great.....she has 150w RMS going to and it is plenty loud. With the ZR240 you will want to bridge the amp to the Comp VRs and wire it as a 2ohm load.......this will send approximatley 150w RMS - 200w RMS to each sub. If you need any info on the ZR240s or even need one...e-mail me at dbdragracing@yahoo.com. Good Luck.

and the kicker amps are under rated, so it'll actually put out a little more power. those subs will sound nice with that amp.

In my opinion go with the jbl 600.1, getit off ebay for like less than $200, im not sure why he siad this amp is bad, but i have never heard of anyone with a problem with this. It puts out at least 600 watts at 2 ohms, so it will be perfect for these. honestly, u want soo good opinions on what to get, check out www.sounddomain.com and ask for polecat in the forum, he works at kicker and knows his shi*.

amp question

I have another question. You guys ever heard of Ultimate? I havent ever heard of them but, I was looking at this audio webpage and I went to a forumn on there and, all of them said that tey were a good company. Well, I can get the 4600 model amp for 220.00 (used) and, It wil put out 250 x 2 watts to my subs. You guys think that will be plenty of power for my 400 RMS Kicker Comp VR's? They all seemed to think so.
Thanks for you advice,
Kendal

Get a Zapco Amp if you want some quality stuff

i have a PPI amp that cost me 300 and it puts out 80x4 or 320x2. That could push your subs pretty well!

Ultimate makes some great subwoofers, but i dont really have enough experience with their amps to give my opinion.

-[ just like me]-

i know it's a little late, but you can still get a Kicker DX700 on ebay for cheap ---

my DX700 is supposed to push 350 watts x 2 @ 2 ohms, but actually pushes 765 watts x 1 @ 2 ohms. divide 765 by 2 and you get the actually wattage going to each of my 12's......
