At the moment I have two amps running two subs. The only problem is that the one amp goes into protect mode as soon as I start to turn the gain up. It does it at about 1/3 of the way. When I get the gain that high the sub starts to whine and then pops and the amp goes into protect. Can anybody give me any advice?

your going to need to tell the audio Guru's what amps and subs you are using before they can begin to help you out.

i have two lightning audio p3.12.4 subs and two lightning audio ff150.2 amps. i know they ain't the best but it is pretty good for the amount of money.

check and see if your getting a good ground to that amp

i checked the ground and it is fine. i know it is not any of the wiring because i switched the wiring between the two and amps and it it still did the same thing while the other worked fine. i also tried switching the subs and it did the same thing. any other ideas.

you didnt cross wires up any where on accident did you? because it sounds like your amp is shot

may not be running correct impedance. see what ohm rating the amps can handle and check how you wired your subs.

disconnect the inputs to the amp (rca plugs/high level input, whichever your using) and then try turning up the gain, if the problem is gone, then you may have a problem with the wiring from the source. if it is still there, look at a possible amp replacement/repair.

Man O Man, those AMPS are only $24 on eBay, talk about saving money...

SPECS:

• 2-channel Amplifier - 450 Watts Max Power

• MOSFET Power Supply

• Variable Crossover: 40-400Hz

• Selectable HP/LP Crossover

• 12dB/Oct Crossover • Input Level Control • High Level Inputs

• Internal Fuse Protection

• Custom Chrome Cover

• Variable 0-12dB Juice Boost Bass EQ

• Thermal Protection

I hope your alternator can handle them.

yeah lighting audio are POS...my brother had one...sounded like **** with the subs he had anyway we had a problem with his, same issue we would turn up the gain protect mode...i found out it would do this because it didnt have enough power in it to power the sub allthough it was aonly a 300w sub...so we took back the amp replaced it, same **** happen again..i hooked it up to my system same ****, completely different subs, never used that brand again

thanks for all the input. i will just try and find something bigger and better.

Hey guys, Killer Cougar didn't ask you to rip on him for his choice of equipment, he asked why it was that one of them was going into protect mode. While some of you gave him things to look at to solve the issue, a couple of you felt the need to rip on him because of what he purchsed. Maybe that is all he can afford. I would probably bet that most everyone here has purchased inexpensive equipment at one time or another, no big deal.

Killer, even though Nasty sounds like he is ripping on you, he brings up a good point about your alternator. Make sure that you are putting out enough juice for the amps to run. If they do not receive enough power they will go into protect. If you have the gain set all the way up for both of them, that requires more juice from the alternator/battery, if the amps are not getting it they shut down.

Try using each one on their own and see what happens. A good thing to do would be to look at the max amperage draw for your amplifiers, and all of the other electrical items in your vehicle. If you end up with more than what your alternator can put out, you will have problems. A new higher output alternator would solve that issue.

Good luck.

well i agree if its not the wiring its nothing you need to be fixing.. my friend had an audiobahn do the same thing he couldnt ever get it to power the subs... as soon as he turned on the ignition it went straight to protect. they best bet is take good use of that WARRANTY i hope you got... and send it back.. either they will fix it or replace it...i learned a good lesson when i was 15 to make sure you buy from a real dealer off the net that will accept your warranty. but i know from hanging around an audio shop alot.. that if its something inside the amp.. dont mess with it...but save like one paycheck and get yourself at least one good amp and not two of those... it will pay off i got those two RF in my sig that ive had for 3 years and they have proved to be my babies... you will appreciate something alot more when you get the quality...and man dont they sound better than a damn legacy i used to have haha

try the amp thats not working right by itself on the wiring of the one that works, if it does the same thing its shot, i would recomend u to either get it replaced or invest on a good quiality amp u dont need 2 amps for this subs one good amp will make em bump!

after looking everything over and doing some research, i have come to the conclusion that the amp is blown so i am just going to go and get a new amp. i was looking around and came up with this one. Boss Chaos C700. http://www.cardomain.com/item/BOSC700 i was just wondering if this was anygood or if you guys had any other suggestions.

you can always go the way of hifonics. that amp you gave a link to isnt all that bad i guess. one hifonics amp can be used to run both subs which will save you money. i would become a member at caraudioforum.com and search the forums there. you will find a lot of info on good amps at low prices. or you can just post a thread there and have others answer your question. btw, that forum is my favorite! they have all the answers youll ever need for car audio questions!!

nah bro, i'd stay away from it boss is not all that good, i have the 550c
http://www.cardomain.com/item/BOSC550
its pushing my door speakers only mids and highs it overheats all the time making it go into protect mode so all i hear for a good 20 minutes its bass i also had it hooked up to 2 12 sony subs and it would get really hot, i cant wait to change it it dosnt even work to push 6X8 speakers ..... if i were u i'd put more money and get a good amp such as a JBL this amps are made right... the amp in the picture is the one i have pushing my 2 12 jbl subs and it sounds beatyfull, im sure it will push any sub u hook it up 2.....
at cardomain they want like 500, i got it for around 280 brand new just shop around!

if your talknig about using your house speakers as your car speakers... thats not a good idea they are built like totally different... even though i see alot of ppl doing stuff like that.. but if your saying pioneer as a good brand of car equipment then id say they are in HUs but ive not really liked them as a sub and amp maker... not many high quality car audiophiles use the speakers or amps but i know a bunch that trust the HUs. but its mainly all opinions and what you feel like spending...but i have a pioneer home system and i love it but dont ruin it by putting it in your car... i dunno if thats what your saying but dont do it if it ever crosses your mind... :)
