Anyone out there smart enough to find out the angle of the back side of the fold down seats for me? I want to build my speaker box so that it sits flush, anyone that can do this for me will help out a lot

Get yo self two pieces of 1x3 x24"and put a bolt through the ends with a wing-nut; one piece on the bed the other piece snug up against the back o da seat-tighten the wing nut and Whamo! yo got yo angle. Scribe that to a piece of cardboard and check the fit before cuttin' up the wood for your box.

well thats what i thought but it seems to be a problem

the backside and bottom side of my box will have to be angle cut so they fit right in, that means i need to know the exact angle so i can divide that and get the angle i need to cut each edge....i have an angle tool but it doesnt have any numbers or anything on it

You can still use Smashboxed's idea, then bisect the angle, to get the angle you need for cutting the wood.

How do you bisect the angle? You use a drafting compass or dividers. From the intersection of the two sides of your original angle, place one side of the compass at the intersection then mark a distance along one side. Then without changing the compass, do the same on the other side. Then put one end of the compass on the first mark you made and trace an arc in between the two sides (about half of the original angle). Then do the same for the other side. Locate where the arcs intersect each other. Now draw a straight line between the original intersection and the intersection of the arcs. You just bisected the original angle (split it exactly in half).

If this is too much work for you (it is a lot easier than it sounds) then you could just go to Home Depot or a similar store and buy an adjustable plastic protractor which is like the homemade one that Smashboxed is describing. I think I paid about $8-10 for the one I have.

Its just fo decoration, man, we only do it fo decoration:D

Is that better?:D :p

Hey, if you are gonna do it ya might as well do it right hunh?

Nothing wrong with being percise and exact.
It all makes for a better end result.

Even if you don't know the deg of angle you just need to scribe the angle from your angle tool to your wood and then match your saw blade to that line. That's why your angle tool does not have any angle indication marks.

6 months ago I would have known the answer to this right off the top of my head! I forget what the angle is now though... I made my box to fit right up against the back seats. I just used some trig from way back in my HS days :). Measured the distance out from the bottom of the seat to the point where the top sticks out, and then measured the height of the seats and figured it out from that... There are much easier ways I'm sure, I just didn't feel like spending more time to build something when I could just figure it out on paper in 2 minutes.

Actually I just thought of an even easier idea... Buy a $.59 protractor, stick it between the two seats, and read the angle! :D

Mo Guy,
If you cut your end pieces first then you will have the angle needed for the edges on your top and bottom pieces.
