I searched thru the old posts but still wanted to ask a couple questions. My light flashed a couple times this past summer and then I never saw it again until this past week. This past week it has flashed a few times. If I want to check for the codes dose the light have to be flashing at the time I check?
The only thing that acts different when the light flashes is for example when I am exiting off of the high way and coming to a stop at the top of the ramp there is a slight thump, almost like a hard down shift right before I stop. This seems bad to me, any thoughts? Am I looking at a big bill?
Thanks for any help!!!

Whoa there. Until we have some idea why you have a check engine light (CEL...sometimes also referred to as a malfunction indicator light or MIL) we really have no clue what the problem might be... so pretty tough to assess a possible cost.

The computer will store the codes for a while, (so the light does not need to be ON to retrieve them) so I'd suggest you go somewhere (Autozone does it for free in some states) and get the codes read. Get the exact numeric code... not some cerk's description of it (it will be like P0741 etc) and bring it back here to us. THEN we can start to help you.

My O/D light is also flashing now and the trans won't go into 5th gear, but there is no CEL. It did save codes, but no CEL lit.

I do have the codes that I pulled with my XCal2. I got a code for incomplete test, so I may have to go have a professional code test done....actually its going to the dealer for repair anyway since its slipping so badly even with the shift improvement program. Any Ideas if its an internal failure or just solenoid malfunctions?

My codes:
P0732--gear 2 incorrect ratio
P0735--gear 5 incorrect ratio
P1000--OBD-II Monitor Testing Incomplete
P1270--Engine RPM or Vehicle Speed Limiter Reached

Check engine light came on yesterday in addition to the flashing O/D light. Another code was added.

P0401--EGR flow insufficient detected

It has been in twice for that in the past two years.

ABS light came on too, but no codes for that. Brake pads/rotors are in excellent condition. I'll have to make sure the sensors are OK if I have time to mess with it.

Also, the trans is now making a constant metallic grinding noise when in drive or reverse. Doesn't make any noise in neutral or park though.
Service appointment is Wednesday, hope they fix everything this time.
