Another Third Gen on 265's

I went and got a set of the Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S in 265/70R17 yesterday for my '03 XLT, looks great and no rub or anything. I had them mount another random 265 on the spare they had sitting around used (free) so that I'd have the same size spare if needed. It's snug but fits. Don't know about the hitch tho, it's right up against the bumper pretty much.

Those geolanders give a nice ride with just the right amount of traction. They wear well also. Looks good.

Thanks man I appreciate the comment. I agree with you, I'm not sure if other A/Ts hum at all but all I know is these things are quiet, look good, and seem to do great so far. I'm going on a trip on tuesday to snowmobile/ski/drink and maybe some light trail riding if I can find some. Oh and today's my birthday, go me!

i bought the same tires today but they wont get here till friday.(Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S in 265/70R17 ) does anyone know wut sizes these are in inches?i know its 265 mil. but i was just wondering if anybody knew i also bout some new 17' rims with a -6 offset. how will these sit in the wheel well? and wuts the OEM offset for an XLS with stock 16' steel wheels?

The yokohama website says 31.9 computation says 31.6
each manufacturer plays around with these specs amd will not be always exact
also note that static height (unloaded) is different than loaded height (with vehicle weight)


Width x Aspect Ratio = Section Height
Section Height x 2 = Combined Section Height
Combined Section Height + Wheel Diameter = Tire Diameter
1"=2.54cm=25.4mm

your tire 265/70-17


265x 0.70 = 185.5mm
185.5 x 2 = 371mm
371mm + 431.8mm (or 17") = 802.8mm = 31.6 inches

don't forget to get the same size spare too, just ask if they have a used one sitting around, they'll throw it on free most likely

Question:

Do you have any significant vibration now with the larger tires? I had mine balanced by two seperate places, but past 60 I can feel it in the steering wheel. I am worried about my bearings, but everybody says that's just normal with big tires.

What are your thoughts?

That's strange I've never heard anything about larger tires causing vibration, but then again I'm still a newbie about all this. What I do know is that I don't feel anything different about the larger tires except that I'm a little higher up and my speedo is off about 6 mph at highway speeds.

When I had the stock tires after I bought the truck there was a lot of vibration after 65 or so but rotating and balancing took care of that. Sorry I couldn't help ya much

ive been riding with 255s and the vibration has pretty much always been there... and as much as ull try to avoid it, ford bearings will ALWAYS be awful... i busted one on the back right and one on the left front... theyre cheapily made and its a pain but when u see that ABS light go on or u hear lots of humming from the back, bring it in to check it... i ignored the ABS light and learned the hard way that i had no bearings, which was to have close to no control of my car on the interstate... not fun

Well,

after throwing some money at my problem, a tire shop said I had the wrong load range tires. 'They' said the only vehicles that use load range E is like armored cars and log wagons.

So, I went to another place, and got a set of load range C's. The wobble, after balancing and a front end alignment lessened considerably. I then heard a grrr in the drivers' side front in a hard right turn, so I replaced that bearing. Now it sort of shakes. But it still shakes. And, because I picked a different tire pattern, it hums like a Jeep. I give up. I don't want to put the teeny stock tires back on.

....And, that's where I am at now.

I would change both front bearings. Those OEM bearings suck, I was having that growling that sounded a lot like tire noise. The right bearing was clearly shot so I changed it, still growled, changed the left, smooth as glass, even with Yokohama At's LT265/75/16's 3 ply load range (E). 0-80 mph, smooth and quite.
