I bought the cheap pigtail and it worked fine for my non-towpackage equipped ’98 X. No need to go and buy the $50 + T convertor. The connection is behind the drivers taillight. I tested it and it worked great. It was $13 at Northern Tool and it is Tap brand part#30915. Also, I mounted a Hidden Hitch class III tube hitch (part# 70647) with my 16â€￾ spare tire. All you have to do is bend the spare tire bracket forward a ½ inch. Everything works great.

Will the 98 up T that your talking about work for a 96?

Did you buy the cheap pigtail that plugs in or one that you crimp or splice to the wires. I can ge the 4 flat that I can splice into the wires for $3-$4. Does it have to have the "Modulator" thing on it? Thanks.

It has the round connecotor, no spliceing. Plugs right in after removing the dust cap. The pitail had the 4 flat on one end and the male round on the other. That is probably why they have the converter on the expensive harness. A 96 may be a bit different than my '98. i googled it and got 96-01 for the model range of the part I used (Tap p#30915). judging by that, you should have that same connector I do.

Plugs in right after removing the dust cap???

I don't have the Round plug behind the bumper. Was yours in a different place than behind the bumper. My harness ends at the passangerside license plate light.

To see the plug on my truck I had to crawl under the drivers side back bumper and look straight up to where the back of the tailight housing is. It was actually below the tailight housing, clipped to a bracket. It is tan colored and has a plug that covers the input. It was at the same height as the top of my bumper.

I will check their again. I seen the Plugs that come from the housing there but I didn't see any other plugs. Say if you get bored later shoot a pic. I would really appreciate it. Thanks
