I've got a 1996 XLT and I'd like to pull a small utility trailer with it. I have a hole in the bumper for a ball, but no receiver hitch (don't need one for a small trailer). My question regards the wiring.
There is a factory wiring harness under the bumper, with a round connector and a cap on it. Can I get the inexpensive wiring harness that goes directly from the round connector to a standard flat 4 wire trailer connector, or do I need the more expensive $50 one with the "protection circuit". I don't know if I have the factory "tow package" but since there's no reciever hitch, I didn't think I did.

Can you advise?

Thanks.

All you need is the cheap round to flat pigtail. Maybe the factory one is hidden somewhere in your X?

The bumper should work fine. I have pulled a 3000 pound Uhaul enclosed trailer from a 98 Mounty with no problems.

The cheap wiring adapter will work fine.
