My 97 4.0

I have the 40 series 2 chamber on my 97 sport 4.0. I bought the muffler and brought it to my muffler guy and he did a 2.5 inch catback system with it. Its really aggresive sounding and when it idles people think its a V8. Hope that helps

50 Series

Hey,
I have a 50 series on my 98 4.0 SOHC. Its custom system from cat'z back, it sounds real good. Its not crazily loud but it makes the X sound REAL fast and it does increase the horsepower significanly. If i were u i would go with the 40 series if u are looking for noise. 50 is not that loud, but loud enough 2 be heard.

I would go with the Borla personally, it lasts longer and I personally think it sounds better as well. I have also heard flows on the early models and I think the borla sounds lower and deeper, too. It is definitly worth the money.

would i just need to buy a replacement muffler???
I want the 40 series non delta is what i'm thinking.

thanks
ryan

I have a 40 series on mine and I love it but it is LOUD
We are getting ready to put a 50 Series on a friends 94 in an hour or two< I am sure it will be quieter but I will let you know the diff in a few hours!

System

You can just buy a new muffler... but if u go custom and put in new piping and a new tip, it will look better, and give u more performance... incresaing the size of the piping lets it breathe even more which is always good. Do a search on here and check out some old threads. That is how i figured out what i wanted 2 put on my Explorer.

ok the 50 series with stock cats and 2 1/2 inch pipe is too quite it is barely louder than stock but has a decent mellow tone, we installed the cat back system from flowmaster, it was a great simple bolt up but it is just too damn quite!

GO WITH 40 SERIES

40 SERIES.... TRUST ME

so if i want loud...will a 40 series delta flowmaster do me good?

i can't find non delta flowmasters....they stopped making them??

yes go 40 but check around they still make non-deltas
try Summit, or even check a few mustang mags you can make any 2- 2 1/2 muffler work

hey ya'll
got my 40 series non delta muffler on
sounds great
more like a v8 at idel and really mean when i punch it.

sounds great a about 1700 rpms

thanks for your help guys!!

later,
ryan

cool you got it on....you got any pics? does it really piss off the neighbors?

jim,
i thought it would be louder than it is..
it seems to me, i dunno maybe i'm crazy... but it seems everyday it gets louder and louder... i dunno

i had new tail pipe off the flowmaster ran out in basically the stock location

its loud, though.. alot louder than before...and i like it!

Haven't pissed the neighbors off yet...but i don't have the short end like your muffler does.
that might make a difference

thanks for your help though jim....i do love the 40 series.

later

oh yea no pics, yet.
