When first starting you can hear what sounds like a manifold leak( ticking, popping noise). It gets louder the harder you accel. Within less than a mile of driving the noise is gone completely. Sounds like its coming from the passenger side. Just seems strange to me, you'd think if it was an exhaust leak it would do it all the time.

That would prolly be your passenger side headder, I believe they are known to leak. My dad has a 98 mounty and that is where his leaks from. I also know that the EGR-headder tube can crack.

Yup
I'll bet you'll find this is you remove it-

You'll need a new exhaust manifold, or, better yet,
Torque monster headers.

Hey-I see you are from Missouri. Can I ask where?

Thanks for the replies. I live in Webb City, just outside Joplin.
I saw your pics earlier today doing a search and thought that could be a possibility. Just weird that it doesn't do it after a mile. Well if thats the problem thats the best excuse to install headers.:D
