I'm browsing for bull bars for the explorer I shall be picking up at the end of the week, and I've found quite a few that I like.

I want something in black, and I know it will start rusting in a few years, but I plan on painting it with rustoleum when that happens. I'm going between the Westin bull bar, and the AutoXtreme. Again, I don't need anything super fancy, but I want something durable.

I'm curious to see what your opinions might be of the AutoXtreme, and thanks in advance for your help.

I'm a pretty big fan of the Westin for a few reasons:

I like the idea of having a skid plate - if your gonna have a bull bar I assume it's for protection so why not have one!

It comes with the mounts for driving lights

Also, you have the option of getting the "plate relocater" kit for your license plate.

It's kinda hard to see the AutoXtreme bar but it appears to have a double lower cross bar. I had to hold my screen at a funny angle to see it though. Kinda crappy to put a black bar on a black truck in a small thumbnail. ;)

I would just consider wether I planned on installing driving lights/ skid plate or not. Nice price on the AutoX but you can find the Westin on eBay for cheaper than that website has them. I like the look of both of them though :D

I'd have to go with beaubruns. I've never heard anyone complain of their Westin, but then again I've never come across anyone who has AutoXtreme. It's an excellent price though.

I have a Westin Bull bar on my 02 Mountaineer. Its black poweder coat, and I have to replace it once every 1 1/2 years. It rusts very very fast. Westin told me they will only replace the bar if rust holes are there, which is not, just very large bubbles of rust.

Although, the bars helped me a few times in fender benders on the highway where I accidently slid into a couple cars in the rear end, and the bar worked not leaving any body damage to my truck, just damage o the other cars which I paid to have fixed.

all in all, I'm not happy with Westin Bull bars, they do not hold up as promised when it comes to corrosion.

My neighbor works at a pretty big truck customization shop in Augusta (Trucks n Moore if you know it) and he swears by Westin.

Go Westin!

$130 vs. $400 would be an easy choice for me....

However the ebay option looks good!
