i need anouther torque converter for my new explorer project truck but i dont want the 3000 rpm stall converter i have in the first explorer... i have heard of the "traveler" converter which has a stall of about 2200 rpm but im still looking for other options, im also wanting to know FROM THOSE WHO HAVE DONE IT when changing to the E cam did you have to change valve springs due to lift.... anyone who has doe these changes please respond....i have an x thats an extreme machine but this is my new x with just a stock 5.0 and i dont plan on new heads like the other one got so if you can help shed light on this i would be thankful...

look into a1 transmissions, i remeber a long time ago when i was searching for mustang stuff running across them......

not sure on the torque converter-... have not done mine yet. May have my friend build me one.

I installed an E-303 cam, FMS 1.6 roller rockers, and crane double valve springs.

I got a rock crawler torque converter from Art Carr performance. It was pricey, about $450, but it stalled at about 2000 rpm. I loved it, but I like my 700-R4 better. I am still running that TC in my wifes explorer which is stock and it works wonderful.

thanks for the help fella's....PUR PONY .. did you take the heads off to do the springs or leave them on....ive used compressed air to hold the valve while i changed the srings before but that was on a much more accessible engine and it was only a few springs...is there a tool for holding the valve or do they just have to come off.....thanks for the help ...

I used compressed air..... and left the heads on.

If you are having problems getting to the plugs remove the front tires and the inner rubber flaps inside the wheel wells. But once th intake and everything is removed it is pretty easy to get to

well i can get to everything pretty good right now b/c im in the middle of a trans swap also, so right now i have the intake and tranny out. i wasnt sure of the valve springs being suitable for a bigger cam and rockers so i posted this thread.... i so far have found 3 diferant torque converters 1.. is about 2000 stall, 2..is about 2200 stall, 3..is about 3000 stall. i have the 3000 in my bad a*s x but this one is just a dirt bike, jet ski hauler so i think im going with the 2200 stall converter. i was hoping for about 2500 but ill take what i can get i guess.also what rockerts did you use fms or others and did you just get from jegs or summit?? thanks again for the fast responce...

How do you like the 3000 stall? What do you have done to that X?

I just have the 1.6 blue FMS roller rockers. I got them from mustangs unlimited cause its local to me. If I was to do it again I would go with the crane gold roller rockers but i dont know how much more they are.

I install the E303 cam, crane double valve springsm FMS roller rockers and new crane roller lifters all at the same time. I really have a crane came but its the one with the same exact specs as the FMS E cam.

my friend can also build you any converter you want. He builds some of the best converters around.

From what I have heard on the Corral, PI is supposed to be the best. I believe it is precision industries. They are ~$700-800 though. Also will be custom to what you want, stall, diameter, etc..

the 3000 is great but its a little to radical for the o'le ladie and the baby to be in, but stock isnt enough so im changing a few things to get the x to where it should have been from ford...as far as the first x i pulled the motor on it when it had 30 miles on it ( bran new) and made about a 350 hp 385 ft lbs of torque motor from it using a long list of parts like heads intake cam headers....ect....and the trans got just a shift kit and the new converter along with an electric shift contoller...( looks kinda like the engine comuter but runs only the trans)....the truck really just gets drivin for fun most of the time, but i drive it here and there sometimes just to burn fuel....another question i have for you guys is where cani get a chip for this truck....its gunna have ....cam headers higher stall converter with shift kit mass air bigger injectors...ect..... so can i get a chip from someone thats burned for that or do i just need a run of the mill chip.......thanks for the help really...

almost forgot.... how do you like the e cam with the rockers....does it perform good.....was it worth the trouble for you....thanks
