i have a 04 trac that i bought to fix up and resell. when i bought it, the owner had said that sometimes the truck would loose its memory for the keys, and starter. they would have to get their neighbor to reprogram it.
well, the first few times i tried it, it worked without any problems. after unhooking the battery, then it stopped working and i found out what they were telling me. if you tried one key it wouldnt work. if you used the spare the truck would start. then after that, the other key worked. once again i had to unhook the battery. this time neither key would work unless i put the truck all the way down into first, then back into park, and both keys would work fine. the starter will only work if the key is near the ring on the ignition switch. would like to have it working and this bug fixed for when i sell it.

Think someone screwed with/broke that tone ring at the ignition that 'resonates' the pats key? Maybe pull the two covers off for a look?

bad ignition halo? check the wiring?
Test your keys? make sure the PATS is still transmitting?

i found this

hope it it will work. the only thing is the fob i have is a four button, and the one in the video only has one.

new challenge, now this thing will only start with the car starter, and the key sitting in the ignition. will not start with either key on its own, or the remote start on is own.
god hates me....

:(
Ignition switch?

i will say no. i will also say this truck is screwing with me because it has sat in the back yard for hours now. last time i tried starting it with the keys, it was a no go so i walked away from it. i have now came home, and wanted to put evil in the back yard. jump in this thing, shove the spare key in and turn it out of habit, and what does it do? STARTS. move it out to the drive way shut it off. put the main key that is use for it in, turn it, what does it do? STARTS......
god really does hate me

so here is a update on this.
i have a friend that installs remote car starters, and has done this for 20 plus years. after both of us racking our brains, we both concluded to start fresh and see what happens.
i unhooked the battery for around 20 mins.
hooked it back up, horn honked once.
got in the truck, put one key in the ignition, and turned it to run, but not starting it. waited for the theft light to turn off, pulled the key out, then did it with the second key. pulled it out, then tried the remote starter. it starts with the fob, and no key in the ignition. killed the remote starter by pressing the brake peddle. then tried to start it with either key only. wont start with keys. tried again with the remote starter, and it starts. with the remote starter running the truck, i put one key in and turned it to run, waited about 5 seconds, pulled it out with the truck still running with the remote starter. put the second key in and repeated. pulled it out, then killed the remote start. then tried with both keys, and the truck starts with the keys again, but wont with the remote start.
i also noticed while it was running with the remote start only, the theft light flashed a code 13. doing a quick google search it came back as a bad responder key.
so it looks like i get to have one or the other unless i want to go to the dealer and have them reprogram the truck, which i wont bother because i am going to be selling it in the end anyway.
