I was talking to a guy at the dealer the other day and he said that typically they don't do shock replacements on EBs because of the air ride suspension. I have always thought about getting a full set of Bilsteins but don't want to screw anything up.

Has anyone done this?

You can disconnect the air suspension and just ride with Bilsteins. However, you'd lose the load-leveling if you towed a trailer. If you plan on four wheeling, I'd say disconnect the air shocks and use aftermarket ones. Of you are just looking for a better ride, in all honesty, I haven't ridden in anything smoother than an air suspension vehicle. My mother's Lincoln is smooth as silk.

I've wondered the same thing about my X since I've got the air assisted shocks on all four corners. I know I'll have to replace them eventually (they're just regular shock with an airbag built in for load control) but I don't know with what or if it will hurt anything else. I kinda like bein able to flip the switch and have the truck raise an 1.5" or so when i take it off road. Also, without the load leveling my rear end tends to sag a little bit, so if i changed the shocks I'd prob have to get shackles or new springs in the rear.
