I'm having the same symptoms as some members have had where the 4WD lights flash when you start the car, then the windows and wipers don't work. Sometimes it'll go away on its own, and disconnecting the battery doesn't help for long. I replaced the rear driveshaft speed sensor and ohmed out the 4WD switch, and still no luck. All signs point to the GEM.

Has anyone had the same problems and actually had their GEM replaced? A number of people said that they were going to have it done. It's like $300 for the GEM at the dealer, so I just need to hear a success story.

Thanks.

I dont know.. but I have a GEM on the way to my house that I'm not going to use. I can sell it once it gets here (if it'll work for your year.. its a 96 but I think 95 and 96s are the same).

Thanks, but I think if yours is a V8 it won't work.

Actually V8s don't have GEMs. Its for a V6.

I am going to swap in a 4405 transfer case, so i started rounding up the parts. But I need a GEM from a 97 (to work with the '99 front axle I have & the 97 tcase I need) so this 96 one I have coming won't work for me.

Well I ended up getting a new one at the $tealer, and it seems to have solved the problem, for anyone else who may have the same symptoms, it's an easy 30 minute DIY job.
