Ok, does anyone know for sure that there is no front ARB locker for 95+ models, and what is the differance between the pre 95's and the 95+ diffs internally Talking about the Dana 35, not the 8.8 rear. I had a ARB rep tell the sales guy at 4wheel parts that they had one for up to 97, but not 98+. Can anyone enlighten me on the subject?

Does NO ONE know the answer to this?

Certainly someone does.... ?

OK here is what I think I know, I could be wrong.

While they are both Dana 35's, the diff housing on the 95-after Dana 35's is smaller in size, and as of yet (unless they've come out with one in the last month) ARB has no air locker for the differentials. I'd call ARB yourself to get the real skinny though.

Front Locker 95-97?

Anybody out there running a front locker other than ARB in the 95-97s? If so, how does it handle/sound/wear/corner in 2WD? I'd like to get another Powertrax for the front,if there is no ARB available, but am curious how it will work on the street in 2 wheel drive.
Any word on the ARB?
Rick

Okay, WHAT is the difference in the front diffy of a 95-97 and a 98+???

My Bad

I missed the '98+ portion of the question. If you can get me the numbers off of the diffy tag, I can find out for you. The Ford Dealer is accross the street from me, they were able to tell me everything about my front diff from that. I'll compare the result s of yours from the results of my '95.

OK, this is out of my ARB catalog:

Model: Explorer, Front
Year: 1990 on
Description: Dana 35 C-clip
Shaft dia: 1.16"
Spline: 27
Axle ratio: 2.73-3.31 Part # RD38
3.54 up Part # RD39

It also says see ARB technical bulletin No. 2.

My suggestion is to find out what Tech bulletin # 2 says.

ARB USA phone: 1-888-427-2872.

31 Spline

Not to argue or contest your catalog Tom, but I gave the tag numbers from my front diff to Ford, and they told me that it was a 31 Spline. That may be because my '95 was a Canadian Production Model however.

Nate, that just confirms that maybe even ARB doesn't know what we have in the new models. I'm getting the feeling that no one including Ford or ARB knows if there is an ARB to fit our front?

Most Explorers came with 31 spline axles. Even my '91 parts truck has 31 splines. Maybe Tech Bulletin 2 explains which vehicles have the 27 and which have the 31 spline axles.

I hate to say it, but I doubt the IFS DANA 35 takes the same carrier as the TTB Dana 35. It seems whenever an automaker has a chance to change something they do.

31 spline FRONT axles???

I know the 31 spline 8.8 rearends in Explorers (in contrast to 28 spline 8.8 Ranger rearends) but I didn't know the front was 31 spline as well!?!
