Are Explorere really that slow?

My explorer isn't slow. I raced a camaro and whooped its ass
i have a 1997 ford explorer xl 4-door awd with 3:73 posi with vin x 4.0 ohv with a 5-speed automatic no pwr lock no pwr window no pwr mirror am/fm radio with 4x4 auto 4x4 high 4x4 low and ir has super ice cold a/c

He must not have no you were even racing. Any v8 camero should have eaten a stock explorer with only the 4.0 especially the ohv.

probably due to bad driver...

ctracing, how are you making out? The throttle cable stretch issue sounds very possible.

My 2000 4.0 OHV is pretty good. City and highway. I dont have to floor it to maintain 65mph. I idle along in the 2,500 rpm range.

Something is holding your ex back.

Brakes siezing? Cant be...Your mileage is good.

It was a V6 3.2 L Camaro. The guy thought his car was hot **** but not anymore

Helped a friend of mine move to CA from MD several years ago and we made the trip in a OHV Ex. It was a total dog. After barely being able to make it up mountians in VA and TN we had had enough. Stopped at a shop and they checked the backpressure before the cats and it was sky high. Can't remember if they got removed or hollowed out but the end result was it would chirp the tires when you floored it off the line when you could barely get the wheels to spin in the rain.
While my V8 AWD Ex isn't the fastest thing on the road it is a big step up from my 2.3L ranger. Lol.

Yup, there is something holding that Ex back. Mine is pretty fast for what it is. I had a Toyota 4 runner v6 with the biig wheel package before. Now, that was a dog. Painful.

No one I know would ever call my Ex a dog. What it lacks in horesepower, it makes up for in torque. Im quite happy with its acceleration, and ability to hold its speed without downshifting. Really, pretty good for an antequated push rod motor.
