I've been wondering if I should get a Tornado for my X, because summer is on the way and my mileage falls off when it gets hot. I've heard good and bad stories about these things. Do any of you have them? Are they worth it?

They are junk! Try a search for them, you will find quite a few threads about them.

That's a negative because they don't work for a hoot... I'd like to hear the good things you heard about em, cause they don't do anything but waste good beer money!

one of my neighbors had one on her Bravada and she said she was getting better mileage and was able to get more days to and from work on one tank of gas

Get a TypeR sticker.

They're better.;)

it was prolly all in there head
until i see some real proff that it works i still say DONT WAASTE YOUR MONEY

I think its a conspiriacy perpatrated on us by the car companies. The big companies who spend millions of dollars trying to meet the Fed. Gov.s mileage requirments say they cant come up with an idea like the tornado. Something so simple that only a genius could invent. Thats the tornado. I'm gonna show those big car co. sob's that I can save gas. I'll put in a tornado and change my driving habits and watch the "free" miles rack up.
You gatta love it....

Let me put it this way..

If it does what it says it does, GM, Ford, and every other Japanese Manufacturer would put one in their vehicle.

Exactly my thoughts! If there were really cheap engine HP and mileage gains available, auto manufacturers would be all over it (especially SUV makers). My same thoughts apply to TB Spacers.

My dad put one (that he bought from EE) in his '97 OHV back in the day.. NOTHING.. now he's gun shy of EE which is kinda sad b/c they're a great business

Using that same theory, why don't auto manufacturers use a better air intake? I mean, my intake only cost me $130.00 and I get 1-2 mpg better than I did before. I would think that the manufacturers would want that.

Most aftermarket intakes result in more intake noise and many consumers want a quiet motor and drivetrain.

exactly what alec said.

you and i consider the throaty sound of an aftermarket intake appealing. 99.9% of car buyers consider it annoying. you can thank the lame-@ss general public consumer for all stock vehicular shortcomings.

...plus it's a lot cheaper for car makers to put in a $5 filter vs. a $100 filter.

Quick thought.... anything that restricts air flow is counterproductive regardless whether it "spins" the incoming air or not.

How does it restrict air flow?

Um, because it blocks the intake tube maybe?

It would decrease the effective diameter (or really thinking in one plane, the area) for the air to flow through, thus, restricting airflow. IMHO, the money would be better spent on a bottle of seafoam or some new plugs or mabey synthetic oil than some crap like that.

I believe that the diameter is the same as the TB,

It sits in the intake tube and it's fins restrict airflow. From pictures I've seen, this restriction can be as much as 40% depending on the vehicle specific design.
