I Need Help

I HAVE A '97 XLT THAT I BELIEVE HAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER RATTLING LIKE I AM DRIVING A 78 PINTO. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
HAS COME ON A FEW TIME AND GAVE ME CODES OF:

OBD II Trouble Codes

P0153 Upstream heated O2 Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 2)

P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

I took it to a Meineke to check the Cat. they said that it would not
resolve my unstable idle problem. Which is my main problem. My idle wont hold and at times will dip up and down and sometimes turn off.

I have been told to first change the 02 sensors to see if that resolves my Cat. rattling. And was also told to do a tune up I dont remember before or after doing the 02 sensors.

SOMEONE GIVE ME SOME GUIDANCE HERE PLEASE.

Manny... your rattle will not be fixed by 02 sensors. Likely as not the rattle is the heat shield on the transmission - they are notorious for thi, as is the cat heat shield.. Your idle problem may be many things, TPS comes to mind first off. Dirty MAF 2nd. Either could throw 02 sensor codes. Read up by searching on TPS and MAF. Let us know how you do.
