i checked into some hotels and whatnot, from work here tonight. basically there is some wierd thing going on in layfayette that is screwing up things....its called the festivle of the hunters moon or some wierd **** like that.....

anyway....no hotel in lafayette is going to give us a group discount. so i think the next option is back in danville, (is that the right town?)

Danville

Yeap, just on the other side of the state line in Illinois. Same distance from subject. 14/15th works great. My better half is not gonna join me this time around so let's join forces to save on a room. Riff, let's get a couple of rooms and pack as many guys in these rooms as possible, huh?
As long as we get some rest. I think I'll get there Friday evening anyway. I just started taking my rig apart today to install my 3" body lift. No problems so far. Still waiting for suspension lift and tires. Should be OK by October. :D

Let's do it!

Andre-
How much are ya lifting it with the suspension lift and what are ya lookin at for a set of wheels and tires? By the way, what brand body lift did you get?

Thanks, Pete.

Body lift

Now I've been told by the guy I bought it from here on the list that this is a PA lift. It doesn't say anything on the instructions, it's a used kit and I might be missing steering extension. I've heard rumors that the extension sucks so I will not really worry about it. As long as I have all the other parts I'm OK. I'm lifting it 3" using body lift and 2" suspension. The suspesnion lift comes from Skyjacker and it contains two new front coils and rear add-a-leaf. I was just thinking that perhaps I can just visit a 4X4 shop and see if I can get coils a bit cheaper. It's gonna be hard to beat the price from Rocky Mountain which is $149.00 plus shipping.
Tire wise I'm at 31X10.5 Goodyear Wrangler RT/S on 15X7" black Unique rims. They look like American Racing, I think 10 spoke. I'll be putting these tires on my stock rims and in the meantime I'm getting a set of 31X10.5 BFG M/T's strictly for off roading. I don't think I'll go anywhere close to 33" tires since I don't want to play with my gears yet. Now, Pete, when you come to Attica you'll see how this set-up will work. I can see you've got your rig up in the sky but that's one thing I worry about. My wife drives the truck too. She complains already that it's gonna be too high. It's hard for the kids to get in and bla, bla, bla. I'm worried about stability though. What if she's on the highway and someone cuts her off? Higher center of gravity makes it easier to roll. I know there is a solution. Guys told me that before, buy her another car but I can't. She loves the Explorer. Now with a new Escape coming out I might have a chance. Will see.
Thanks and .... see you in Attica.
:D

Attica pix are up again

Riff, here's new link to my Attica write-up. Plenty of pictures too. Guys, visit the site!

See you all there.

Sounds good Andre....As for those coils...Are you needing any sorta drop brackets....I bought from nation wheel and tire sky jacker 6in lift coils for a hundred...this makes me think that you my be able to get 2in lift coils here cheaper...As for the PA body lift, the bumper brackets will put you through hell and back to get them to fit(at least they did for me. As for the steering link, I could swear I never needed it, bit it's in and I acidently broke a small plastic casing holding a bearing in place by the firewall...It's gonna be fine but shortly I'm gonna get this fixed...As for the 31's I did a 4 in Sky jacker class 2 lift and had plenty of room for BFG 31's A/T's on stock rims...I never got em to bottom or rub...The class two lift is expensive but I'm satisified with what I got...If I can help ya with anymore ideas I'm more than happy to...I'm away this weekend so I'm gonna be alot slower to respond, or at least till I'm back at school...Thanks Pete

It's not really a long weekend for me. I'm in real estate so when people are off it means work for me. I'll be taking it easy though on Sunday and Monday so I can work on my truck a bit. I won't worry too much about bumpers and how they fit. If anything I'll have a bigger gap. Riff never did anything with his when he raised his body 2". I know that between an angle grinder, drill and MIG welder I'll come up with a solution.

Thanks,

PS. for now I'm "seasoning" the bolts holding the body down.
:D

Alrighty boys, I am marking down on my calendar for the trip to Attica. No excuses now, this is plenty in advance so I don't want to see any of you fellas weezing out the week before. ;)

Can't wait, plenty of time to get my truck ready.

I have a question for you lads, I want to buy some Hellas but don't know where to put them. There aren't any light bars on the market for me yet so I am stuck. I can get the Safari rack, I called and asked Surco they do have brackets for my truck. I can put lights on that. Let me know if you guys have any ideas.

Here's a pick to let you see for some ideas.

Sorry, no pics of my truck with the tires yet.

Hey everyone, sorry for taking so long to reply to this. I would love to join you guys, but I need to know the date you guys decided on as a final. By the way, if anyone would like to try and get a run together in Missouri, I found a great place in Akers Missouri on the Akers River. There is a state park and camp grounds everywhere. The is also good four-wheelin all over the place for all different skill levels and vehicles. Otherwise I just need to know the specifics on Attica II.
Thanks

14/15th

Initially we're set for October 14/15 over in Attica. There should be plenty of people there. If you need help with lodging let us know. It looks like we are going to camp in Danville, IL just about 30 miles west of Attica. First run Saturday 9:00 AM sharp as soon as they open the gate.

(Still working on my lift)

Later
:D

OK, I think we're pretty much settling on the 14-15th of October. Here's how it fits in my schedule. I work Friday the 13th (eeek) until 6 PM, and don't get home until about 7 PM. I normally get up around 4 AM for work, so I'm not going to be able to drive out there on Friday evening. It's just too long of a day. What I would like to do is drive out on Saturday morning, the 14th and get checked in, then meet everyone, perhaps at lunch or whatever. We can then wheel on Saturday afternoon, and most of the day Sunday.

I don't know what time people want to head back on Sunday, but I don't have to get up real early on Monday, since I don't have to work until Monday night. I plan on driving home Sunday evening.

Let's get a head count, and see how everyone else's schedule fits. I'll keep tabs on this thread to see how it goes.

14/15 Oct Attica

I plan on being there Sat. am for first run as well as Sun. Count me in for a room.

See you guys there!!

Okay, I'm in. I believe me and two of my friends are in for the truckin but there are a few stipulations: one, I'm gonna leave here and make it there for maybe lunch b/c of my hetic schedule. Secondly, I'm goin to have to leave early sunday morning to make it back to school on time. Third and finally, I need to know how much and where these motels may be for us to stay at. Like I said, it should be me and two other guys..So I know I'll be there a short time and all but I need to go out and get some real wheeling done...Pete

During spring break in college we packed 17 guys into one Holiday Inn room. That room was pretty cheap split 17 ways.

I want to come, but I was looking at some of the pictures from the last trip and noticed that some of the trails were pretty technical (at least appeared that way). Will I as a person with a small amount of 4-wheeling expirence and a mostly stock Explorer be able to keep up and do most of the trails? Just wonderin.
Thanks
adam

Adam,

We would love to have you come along and I'm sure they'll only go as fast as the slowest driver. I have never personally been to Attica, but from what I hear some of the trails are fairly demanding. If you have a stock explorer you will just have to be a bit more careful. You should be fairly safe with nerf bars. Don't worry, we will help you out on the hard trails. This is for fun, we all just have a good time.

What do you have to say riffman?

Riffman?......he always disappears......

trails in Attica

These trails are pretty tough. Green is the easiest then comes Orange and the impossible, the Red one. Stock you will not even try to start the Green trail. There are places though that you can do pretty basic stuff so you can pretty much see what your truck is capable of. Climbing, downhill, sand, water and mud. You can even see how far you can stretch your suspension. Old querry and area close to it are the places to do these things. When I was there the first time the only upgrade I had on my truck were 31" tires. Don't worry, you won't be left behind. There's a couple of things that you have to bring with you though, your determination and curage cause once we start the trail, there might not be enough room to turn back. With so many people going we can have two groups set up. Will see when the time comes. For now, sign in.

not disapearing....just...uh....playing.......i just got back from a weekend of jet skiing on lake michigan. holy sh^t, my whole body is sore!!!! we're talkin 4 foot swells out there!! i flipped my ski once, and jumped 3+ feet out of the water more times than i can remember!!! needless to say....it was freakin fun!!!

so enough about that....so far we have 5 confirmed people.

kampy, dave, seth...the rest of you guys? what do you think? can you make it? please please please?!?!? Coooommme oooooooonnnnnnn!!!

for rooms...i figure that the most we can get into a room, and still be comfortabel...would probably be 6. and thats still not too bad for the price. it also depends on who is coming with you guys....for instance...i don't think that Anne and Todd(Kampy) would want to share a room with 4 other guys! so when you check in, check in your passengers too, so that way we can get a better idea of the rooming situation.

another issue to tackle, is we need to nail down a solid starting time. granted, if anyone gets there early, they can start wheeling. but maybe later we could all meet up at the concession stand and have lunch...shoot the sh^t a little, then all run the green trail or somthing. just a thought....but if we all start together, there are gonna be more photo ops.......so put you 2 cents on that one too....

but as for now...im going to go take about 12 asprins and pass out....if i wake up tomorrow (doubtful) i will put on some prices for hotels and what not.....
