Attica Turkey Run!

good luck

Hey everyone, no matter how much I want to, I won't be going on this trip. I will be busy with fun college stuff just like during the last time. Just wanted to say goodluck.

crap people!! a guy doesn't post for 24 hours and you think hes fallen off the earth!!! lol...just kidding.....

the trip was awesome! now i have a few new experiences....some new memories...a new pair of pants (the other ones were too full :D )

yeah, todd (mr. chump) ...i think (think!) i am ready for the orange....the green, start to finish, had some pretty hairy parts, but i think it will be cool....

andre..the tires rock...once they get warmed up, they ride a lot smoother and quieter.....and the combination of the unbalanced tires, and the unbalanced drive shaft made for an interesting (slow) ride home...i got home about midnight...

but you should see all the looks i get with this damn thing!!! holy sh^t!!! mostly from jeepers...they're jealous, i know it!!

Good, now all you need is a huge push bar up front to get all those jeepsters out of your way. I just tore my front end apart and it looks like wheel bearing (inner) gave in. Got to gather some parts tomorrow since I might want to overhaul the entire thing, spindle, bearings, racers, brake calipers. While I was trying to take my shock off I stipped the bolt. More problems then.... heck, "what a men's got to do........

Later,

yeah..i stripped the threads on my shock too....i ended up cutting them with a torch...good luck!!

yeah, OK, let's say I cut it off with my angle grinder but then what? drill through and just install a new bolt?

I'll be talking to a tech guy at my friendly dealership since I'll be picking some parts up tomorrow.

Should I replace the spindle as well since it was the inner bearing that went bad???

What did you do with your shock mount Scott?

Later,

Riff, thought you might have popped a wheel bearing on the way home. You DID check that passenger side hub and bearing when you swap the tires, yes?
Try to stuff them tires as much as you can before the 18th so your sure they fit. Hate to be picking up shreads of rubber(or fender) the first drop :). Send a pic, I want to see it.

later,

andre...i cut the shock at the bushing on top. i cut, with the torch, through the bushing, and the metal underneith it. then i pulled the remaining part out of the top. i dunno if this is a clear description or not.....lol...im really tired....

john...im pretty sure my bearings are shot. they are singing pretty good, and whenever i am turned straight, both tire are angled out.....so i gotta get those replaced....

Riff, I stripped bottom bolt, not top, not the one on the shock itself.

Heck, I'll look into it later,

Thanks,

bump

ugh...the bottom bolt, eh? im not really familiar with that one. but as i understand it, if you were to grind it off behind the shock...then i think you can pound it through the radius arm, and replace it with another splined (right term?) bolt. that might work. good luck, and keep us posted!!

I am leaning towards the Truck Haven 2001 run instead of MOAB. Now, I know it's 2000 miles, but it seems like it may be more fun IMHO. Anybody interested email me or PM me. I am thinking I could split a trailer rental with who ever wants to go. If not I will just put my stock rubber on an drive there. Guys, this could be a great trip!!!! Let me know. I am SERIOUS!

It could be very nice. Especially in January. I might be willing to take this into consideration but first have to negotiate with my other (better) half.

Stay tuned,

Hey Todd, did you get this room?

Riff, I'll grind the shock bolt off. Bought a replacement bolt so this is no problem. Just got new spark plugs and wires too. I'm going through a lot with this truck lately. It's at 95K miles so I guess it's about time. It deserves some attention.

Later,

Whoa....Andre puting in lots of work into the rig...Can't wait to see what it can do with all the new mods!
Go Andre!
Pete

It's not only mods Pete but regular maintenance stuff. Bearing gave in because seal went bad and lost all the grease. New bearings then a necessity plus will replace seal on the other wheel just in case. I had some problems lately with warm starts so I decided to go with new spark plugs and wires. I'm going in with Split Fire Platinums all the way around. Brakes? caliper on the passenger side was giving me a hard time so I'm replacing both sides plus pads. Suspension lift is just an excuse to do all that work. As usuall with me, always looking for an excuse to do more work. Winch is gonna be anlother story. At least now I have heat in my garage so I can do more later. My wife is pushing me to do more work around the hose and I might have to comply with that. (just so I can go and play in Attica next weekend).

Later,

uh oh...i got problems!! i just went out muddin last night....by myself....i know, stupid me..and got stuck. while trying to get out, i ended up breaking somthing in my front end.

basically i was sitting with my front tires down in a really deep ditch, and was giving her hell in reverse....i turned the wheels a little bit, and it started bouncing a little...know what i mean? anyway.....after a few times of bouncing i hear a CRACK!!!!!! then i go....OH F#*K!!!!!!

when i got winched out, i had the truck in neutral, and the hubs were still locked in. and i could hear a clicking of sorts, but louder that just a slight one. and it kinda seemed like the truck moved slightly with each click.

by disengaging the hubs, and then engaging 4 wheel drive and driving it for a short distance...i believe that i have ruled out the possibility of t-case, front u-joint, drive shaft, and the ring and pinion. now...its one of the following....axle shaft, locking hub, or i wanna say the CV joint (but for some reason i don't think its called that. its where the front wheels can turn and move in the middle...maybe a kind of u-joint itself????)

any suggestions? any ways to check the problems? HELP!!! i gotta get it done before attica!!!!! PLEASE!!!

Aww MAN Riff, c'mon...take it easy. I want to run with you on Sunday. Anyway, not sure what it could be, but I'm willing to bet Todd will.

Scott, it's probably one of your front axle ujoints, they are dry and have squeaked and snapped and groaned since I've known you. If they aint broke replace them anyway before they leave you stranded. There are three of them and for the center one you have to pull the diff apart which means pulling the whole front end apart again. Have fun.

ok...uh...how do i check to see if those are whats broken?

Scott...Quit you're whining about your truck and lets go! Get in action! We need ya at attica...Not to mention anyone else with a 4x4 in the chicago area!
Pete

Scott, now that 2 guys said to check them front axle u-joints, you gonna try it now? Both out boards can be seen in the knuckles, not sure of the inboard, will have to check.
