Matt, your a man after my own heart. i like your F-150. but i have a question.

how legal is all that ****? how many switches are you using to control all of those? you got a pic of the switches?

im gonna be hiding several lights on my vehicle. one or two sets of ******* lights, and some other frontal lights.

are you sponsored by PIAA or something? cuz that looks to be about a $1000 lighting system.

what kind of strain does that put on your electrical system?

and do you ever get pissed off at someone infront of you and just launch all the lights at them? i bet it would be brighter than the sun.

hmm, what else was i going to ask you.... oh yea, can you get me some pics from the drivers seat of your truck of what it looks like with just the low beams on, then high beams on, then all the lights on? that would be awesome!

Thanks,

Phil

$1000... Haha you're funny...

I'm guessing its closer to $1500-2000...

I can answer the question of when he turns them on though... Its only when his friends are in front of him... I can't count how many times Chris and I have been on the recieving end of that!!! Nothing like a burned retna to spruce up your evening drive home...

According to Colorado law its all legal. THe only law about lights in Colorado is if they are higher then 44" they must be covered.
I am only using three switches for now. Well, three switches plus the stock switch. THe fog lights on the outside of the airdam are controlled by teh stock fog light switch. The light on the inside of the airdam have their own switch, then all four lights on the brush guard are controlled by one switch, then all the lights ont he light bar on top are controlled by a single switch. I just used standard non-lit two-way switches for all of them though. Oh yes my reverse lights (PIAA 1400s) are also on their seperate switch which is hidden under the dash. Don't want to switch that one on accident! :) In my explorer I have a seperate switch for each set. For pics of that setup, you can visit http://mattadams.f150online.net/PIAA/piaas.html. Someday I am going to write a page like that one about the lights on my truck too.

I am sponsored by PIAA. I figure if it wouldn't it'd be about a $1500-2000 lighting setup.

If I turn them all on at the same time the stock 130-amp alternator can keep up ok, but I wouldn't recommend running that way for very long. I've done two wheeling trips now whenre I turn on the lights on the roof and my fog lights/headlights for an extended amount of time and never have any electrical problems.

I haven't flashed anyone because they piss me off, knowing my luck it'd be a cop or anything. I think one time I flicked hte lights on the brushguard on at someone but that was just to warn them rather then to piss em off or anything :). I wouldn't flash my roof lights at anyone... those are incredibly bright and they'd go blind for reals.

Also on the bottom of that page I showed earlier, it's got some pictures of the garage lit up with the various lights on (thats in my explorer not my truck). It's tough tot ake them through the windshield, they just don't turn out well.

Hope that helps.

Hey Matt. How did you get sponsered by PIAA. Did you just ask them to sponser you are what? I think that is really cool that you had the opportunity.

Matt, that truck is MONEY.

how did you end up getting a sponsorship from PIAA though? i want one!

i want several lights on my vehicle. but i think i may end up going the "hidden" route with the lights. I.E. placing them in some other places where they cannot be seen whilst turned off. but i will be replacing my factory foglights with PIAA's.

maybe you could hook me up on the inside eh?

and where would you suggest hiding lights on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

well sponsorship is not easy to get... it requires a lot of time and devotiona nd once you have it it isn't easy to keep it... do a search on sponsorship, I've explained before what needs to be done.
As for hiding in a jeep, I'm not really sure cause I'v enever looked in-depth at one. I'd say maybe behind the grill but the grill would block most of the light.

Well I decided WTF and searched for your bit on sponsership. But I was rather unsuccessful so do you think you could get a link or tell me what to search for? I have become very interested and would like you help. Thanks, Kyle.

yea Jeep grille's look like this:

| | | | | |

i have no idea where to hide them.

next time your at a car dealer, see one somewhere, or anything, think you could give it a quick look, and give me some ideas? i want as many lights as possible, with very few showing when off.

Typically most larger companies (and even some of the smaller ones) will only sponsor your vehicle if you can promise a significant return or a large amount of exposure, and talking about it on here or going to your local car show typically won't be enough. They want like magazine exposure or large show exposure (SEMA show, etc.). With that being said and the fact that sponsorship is not impossible heres what I'd recommend doing.
1) Get some good photos of the truck. If your really serious, I'd recommend having these professionally done. If not, I'd at least recommend taking it into a field with no houses around or anything. You want a backdrop other then your driveway.
2) You need a well written letter of sponsorship. Basically you identify yourself as someone seeking sponsorship, you tell them how you would promote the product (online, car shows, etc.) and what you are seeking from them in return. Also may want to include how often you will keep them updated as to your progress. For example, every month or two for most of my sponsors I will send them an email or a little packet including pictures from any shows/events, links to any online discussions about their product and if possible, proof that people are buying the product based on my recommendation. You remember when you are a sponsored driver you a salesman for that company.
3) Whenever possible, I'd say include a list of events scheduled for the next year. Even if the dates are just tentative, they can be changed later. This will give them an idea of hte frequency that their product will be getting real exposure (remember, driving to and from work doesn't count, heh heh)
Hope that helps.
FYI, throughout having three vehicles, I'd bet I've sent out 200 letters, made about a hundred long distance call and only landed a few sponsors so the time probably won't be worth it.

Hmm . . . very interesting. Thanks for the info Matt.
