Audi S4 OR 2002 Explorer/Mountaineer?

Which would guys choose if you were looking at these vehicles? We were going to sell my truck but moms ended up giving it to my younger sister (pisses me off scince I put a lot of money into mods and especially the stereo -oh well-) So were looking at the new explorers or mountaineers, shes friends with the head guy at our dealership and he let us use the mountaineer V8 for a week, very sweet truck. But I was in my friends Audi S4 at school that was chipped and damn that was a torque monster, hell of a lot of power + all wheel drive equals a slingshot of the line. I couldn't belive how fast that car was, it didn't matter what gear you were in, even 6th gear will pin your a** to the seat. If I get an S4 it will definitley be used (2000-2001) cause a new one is a little pricey but damn good for what you get. But I really love being in a truck, plus I havn't driven a stick that much and don't know how much of a pain it would be in traffic- is it as bad as everyone makes it seem like? What would you guys do?

well, would the explorer/mountaineer be the new one (i.e.: '02)?

you cant take an s4 offroad

you cant fit nearly as much stuff in an s4.

its up to you (obviously), but what are your 'needs' going to be? will you have to haul stuff around? do you go wheeling at all? etc.

(also keep in mind that when you start modding an s4, it can get a little ricey...unless thats your thing, then go for it.)

if it were me, i dont know what id do. i wouldnt get an 02 explorer because i just dont like them, except for the sport, which i love, but on the other hand, the s4 is damn nice. tough call.

We're looking at the 02's, I'm not really into offroading I'll just go with friendsif they do, speaking of that I have to post pictures of my friends Denali, he has one mean jacked-up offroad truck. For street use the 02's are mad nice, that 4.6 v8 haus a** too, the mountaineer was a hell of a lot quicker than my moms Mountaineer 5.0. But damn that S4 is nice. About the ricer part your right, at my school basically everyone has Beemers, M3'S AND 5'S, Audis ect. ect. (an 18yr old kid in my dorm drives an M5 how sick is that) And a lot of them are riced out, crappy sounding exhaust and what the hell is up with that drag racing spoiler. But my friends S4 is a sleeper, its all debadged with an APR chip, intake and exhaust (no friggen rice spoiler) and at low to medium speeds it has one of the meanest growls you will hear from any engine, but at full throttle all you see is a blue blur and a note that sounds like a mix between a Mustang Cobras growl and an F1 cars wail - pretty bad a**) I have a feeling I'll end up with the 02 Explorer, but if we can find a nice used S4, I'm not sure what I will do.

the reason a chipped s4 has so much power (dont get me wrong, theyre pretty good stock, but...) is because i think the boost is computer controlled, so you add a chip, you up the boost from the blower.

my sisters in a similar situation. she has a 96 xlt X that shes getting rid of soon and she doesnt know if she wants a new SUV or an audi a4 (not the s4 though.) for her, it comes down to utility. i keep telling her that this is the last car our parents are buying for her, shes gonna regret not getting an suv if she goes for the car (suvs protect better, and shes had her fair share of accidents. 10 year old girl with a cell phone, radio, cds, and a/c & heat controls = bad driving), plus, she'll get more "utility" out of the truck than the car. when i got my 98 sport, i wanted nothing more than a mustang gt or cobra (there was no way my parents were going for the cobra at the time though, heh), im so glad they talked me into getting the X. i remember how i thought when i was 18, and now, im still only 22, but at this point in my life (and the way its going), the mustang as a primary car just wouldnt work.

its all personal preference though. you dont really offroad (neither do i), and you prolly dont get much snow down there in boca, heh. so i guess if i were you, id think about the "space" or "cargo" factor; you either have a great big truck (the 02's are huge!) or a little tiny euro sports car with a trunk big enough for a pair of shoes, heh.

Your right about the chips, i just can't remember the amount that they boost up. Even the A4'S are quick, my friends brother has a chiped A4 1.8 and that was the strongest pull I've ever felt from a 4 cylinder. It easily beat my friends Integra Type R and just barely beat a punk driving an S2000, but he still beat him. An A4 chipped pushes close to 250ft. lb of torque from 1800-over 5000 rpm. A chipped S4 will push over 360 ft. lb over about the same rpm. Pretty damn sick considering thats without any other mods. I was actually considering the A4 saving my mom a lot of money but theres something about that S4.

Get the A4 with low miles and mod the crap out of it. Take it to an aftermarket Audi specialist--I don't know who, but similar to BMW-Dinan--and blow the doors off a stock S4 for less $$. Now that's spending money wisely, IMO.

if i was in your shoes id get the s4. they are sweet cars. but thats just me. do what ya want. just choose something youll be happy with

My older brother had an A4 for 5 weeks bfore he got into a high speed (64 mph) head on crash into a Ford Ranger going the same speed. After the vehicles had come to their "resting places" there was lots of damage. The A4: when it stopped had 3 wheels, no engin, and no hood. The battery flew, in the air, to a road about 500 feet away down by the Ohio River. There were 3 people in the car... no one got a scratch. The only problem was that the car had 4 air bags and only one went off (passenger side impact). We think this is because everything happened in litteraly the blink of an eye. The Ranger was on its side by a wall. When the cops showed up, he told my brother that he should be dead and so should everyone else that was in the crash. The Audi has to be the safest car on the road. Every door opened after the crash. If you want a car with some serious b*lls and be completley safe, the go with the Audi.

S4 without a question. it is a superior car. look into the subaru WRX too. it is 20k cheaper and better performance. if any one disagrees and really want to vocalize it please write me a leglessmidgetporn@hotmail.com

FYI, if anyone cares, Audi is bringing over the RS 6 which is currently in Europe. Get this- a 450 hp biturbo V8!! It looks absolutely awesome.

I'd go with the Audi. Its faster, better gas mileage, handling. The X has better offroad capabilities and luggage and towing. I just think the Audi is a much better vehicle when i compare the 2

a friend of mine has a 02 s4 with 19s, new turbos, exhaust, intake, a custom chip etc etc etc. it runs 12s... and handles incredibly.

the 02 explorer/mountaineer looks like a station wagon and would probably take another 20,000 in mods to run 12s and would never handle like that.

if your not going offroad why would you want the latter??? just get the audi and put a thule box on it.
