Auto Climate Question...

On our previous vehicle, 2013 Santa Fe Sport, we left the climate control on auto, and never took it off. It had the fog detection sensor on the windshield, and it would take care of keeping us comfortable.

On the Explorer though, I am a little confused. We have it set to auto, but we seem to have to manually turn the AC on or off. I have never seen auto turn the AC light on or off. It also doesn't seem to detect fogged up windows.

Is this normal?

There is no fog sensor on the explorer windshield or rear window. You have to manually turn on the windshield defroster or rear window defroster. The auto climate will operate the main system based on inside and outside temps. The AC will not run if the outside temp is below 50 deg F.

The only thing Ford has in the Limited models is rain sensing windshield wipers that have a sensor in the windshield that will run the wipers automatically and vary the speed.

That is surprising, considering the price difference of the two vehicles.

The Explorer is bigger, more powerful, and the Sync system is better than Hyundai's system, so I am happy.

The other day it was around 45 degrees outside, yet the sun had warmed the car up quite a bit while we were sitting in a line idling, with recirculation on. That is when I noticed that I had to manually turn on the AC.

Keith, I also traded in my 2010 Santa Fe Limited V6 in favor of ExSport2015 2 weeks ago. In 2010 model of Santa Fe there were no sensor's for detecting fog on the windshield however it had all other bells and whistles on offer by Hyundai back in 2010. I am a very happy Hyundai Customer and have had no issues with their quality. However I had decided this time to go either for BMW X5, Acura MDX or Santa Fe 2015 LWB. Three weeks ago i was in Portland OR in business trip when AVIS gave me Explorer v6 (Just a base model) to drive around. I was so impressed with the ride quality and handling of the car, that I arrived back in Denver on Thursday and bought myself a Sport Ex on Saturday. Ford has a lot more technology packed in, and I am very glad to be a driving one. Yep there are some quirks which makes one think, what the hell... but overall i have been very happy with my car for 2 weeks now. Never thought that I will ever buy an American car...but Explorer changed it all for me. I just hope it lasts as troubler as I had gotten use to of with Hyundai Santa Fe.

I've never had to turn the A.C. on and off manually. If you get warm, just bump down the set temperature by 1 or 2 degrees. Sometimes when I find myself warm or cool, I remember that ive inadvertently left the rear system on. The rear system is totally separate and not automatically controlled, so that does sometimes need tended to.
