Hey all:

I have a used 97 EB Explorer, with a autodim and autolamp mirror. The autodim part works, but the autolamp part does not work. When the autolamp is set to work, the headlights come on day or night. I've just left it off, and used the switch manually.

It used to belong to my sister, who reattached the mirror when it fell off of the windshield. I am guessing the sensor is screwed up, or in the wrong position. Where is the sensor, and how should it be positioned? Or is there something else I should look at?

Thanks,
John Fordham

My sensor is in the little black piece that is against the windshield. The little part that is clipped to the actual mounting clamp attached to the windshild. It hangs down a little lower and has a wire coming out of it. Mine has a little gap between it and the windshied so I wonder if something got in there on top of the sensor making it think it was dark outside.

Here is a pic.

Thanks for the pic. That and one I found on Ebay made me realize that black plastic bolt cover I found under the driver's seat is actually for the autolamp sensor. I put it back together as best as I could (I think a part of the cover is missing), and now it seems to work fine. I guess I'll find out when someone drives past me with their brights on.

Thanks for the help!
