Auto lock & unlock

The procedure is covered in the Owner's Manual under Locks. If the manual is the same as the online one I'm looking at (2013, 4th printing) then it is on page 73. I think the procedure is under the heading Unlocking the Doors (Two-Stage Unlock). Not sure if this is only for the remote. If so, use the settings in the left hand screen as I've indicated below.
My doors automatically unlock when I put the shifter into 'Park'. Since I don't use the childproof locks, I can only assume that it will also unlock the rear doors but you will still only be able to open them from the outside.
There is also a setting in the left hand display regarding locks. It is under Vehicle/Locks and there are several options shown to chose from.

The enabling of the 4 door auto unlock on mine (2011) was quite different in that I had to use the manual lock/unlock buttons on the driver's door to set it up.

Peter

Peter,
How did you accomplish this on your 2011?

I have the same issue and havent seen if this is possible. The only option in the info center is to place them in auto unlock and they only unlock the front.

All of my doors unlock when I open my door, the car has to be off though.

That was 2 years ago John. I think I followed the Power door lock switch autounlock enable/disable procedure that was on page 141 of the manual (1st print). The online version in the 4th print shows it on page 138. I think that programs the manual door switch to unlock all doors with a single press of the button.
I erred in my post when I said that the doors automatically unlocked when the shifter was put into 'Park'. The ignition has to be off and the doors all unlock when you open the driver's door. Everything is so automatic now that I just don't pay that much attention to exactly how they work. The left screen under Settings/Vehicle/Locks also has settings for this but I don't know if that automatically sets the locks or if they have to be programmed first. What you want to do is disable "two stage locking".

Thank you Peter. Mine is setup the same way then.

Auto Unlock option for Door-Where is option now?

I have a 2011 Ltd. There used to be an option on the left hand display that was for Auto Unlock. You could choose: Driver's Door or All Doors. I recently noticed that the option is no longer there. The only option was to turn the Auto Unlock on or off.
Does anyone know how to adjust this feature now? It is driving all of us crazy as it is set on Driver's door and we want all doors to open.

Btw, I have not yet installed the v3.6 update.

Mine is the same way. When I programmed the autounlock I used the procedure shown in the Owner's Guide. I don't know which printing edition you have but if it is the same as mine (1st print) the procedure is on page 141. The online 4th print edition has it on page 138.
The only option in the left screen settings for either Driver's Door or All Doors is under Remote Unlocking.

Thanks for the reply. It is the Remote Unlock that I was referring to. It used to be there, but disappeared during the last update. However, I just completed the v3.6 update and it is back! All is well.

That's strange. I'm still on 3.5.1 and the remote option to unlock either the driver's or all 4 doors is still there in the left screen.

I just took my firt 800+ mile roadtrip with 4 adults and the rear seat passengers are locked in every time! Any idea why my auto unlock isn't working??

Auto Locking

Hello everyone, I did a search and couldn't find an answer.

Does AutoLock exist on the 14 Explorer Sport?

I've had some problems having things stolen out of my truck. No forced entry.

I know I should make sure it's locked but wanted to have a feature that can help me if I do forget as I did last night and the thief got a new Polo hat and $15. BIG SCORE!!!!

Is there an alarm upgrade available?

Thanks in advance.

None of the Explorers have 'Autolock'. I'm afraid that activity still requires human intervention. There are alarm upgrades that members have done but I don't know if any of them would provide what you are looking for

If you do an 'Advanced Search' on "alarm system" in the 'Modified' forum, you will come up with several threads on the topic.

Peter,

Do you know what the auto unlock feature does on the Explorer?

It would be easier to read page 76 in the Owner's Guide than for me to try and explain it here. It explains both autolock and autounlock.

2014 FORD EXPLORER XLT 4WD

Have you checked your settings? I believe they are in the left info display. Also described on page 76 of the 2014 Owner's Guide.
Is this on a 2014 or 2015? You list both.

They won't all unlock until you open the drivers door after turning the vehicle off.

2015 Limited Need help with autolock, auto unlock

Had my Explorer for couple of weeks now and even with a few "well that's a bite" moments like how easy it is to shift to M instead of D or there is not PSI display for the tires, there is one that is really driving me nuts. I am thinking it is because I am not doing something right.

The second row doors do not have a power lock/unlock button. I assume this is Ford's idea of child safety. However I don't get the process for auto unlock. If I drop someone off and I don;t want to shut off the engine, they have to manually reach over their shoulder and unlock. Is this right?

I have manual child safety switch in doors set to off. My understanding is that for the auto unlock to work I need to have the auto lock engaged (driving over 12mph) then do the following.

Stop, put car in park, turn off engine then hit the driver unlock switch or open the driver door within 10 minutes.

Does this makes sense? Am I missing something? My previous car would auto unlock when I put the car in Park. Do I really have to turn the car off?

I tried everything but the doors will only auto unlock with the engine off. And why would they not put electric lock/unlock buttons in the second row and have a switch to lock them out for child safety?

Please note: Even with this I really love this SUV!

Have you gone through the section in the Owner's Guide that explains this? With the doors locked, you should be able to open the driver's door without having to push any buttons as long as the transmission is in Park. I do it all the time when I make a short stop at the mailbox. The childproof locks only prevent the rear doors from being opened from the inside when they are set to ON. They don't have anything to do with the auto lock/unlock feature from what I can recall. The doors should auto unlock with the others if you have it set up to 'unlock all doors' instead of just the driver's door. I believe that option is in the left information display. Unfortunately Ford has not yet added the 2015 Owner's Guide to the website so I cannot view it to see if it has changed from previous models.
BTW, your profile shows F-250, not 2015 Limited.;)

Thanks so much for your reply!

Do you mean actually opening the driver side door or hitting the unlock switch? Either way I don't define (IMO) as auto unlock. :) The 2015 manual states that for the auto unlock to work the locks need to have been set to lock position via the auto method (driving over 12mph). Then the SUV needs to be stopped and in park, with the engine off. All locks will open if the driver door is opened within 10 minutes. So I am thinking this is the way it works. I do have "all doors" set up. I can only open all locks with the engine running by using the key fob or the unlock switch on my door. I am still amazed they didn't add a power lock switch for the rear seats.

Updating my profile next :).

That's Ford's version of auto unlock. Putting it into park and opening the driver's door. You should be able to open the driver's door with the engine running. The others will remain locked. I guess you can look at it as a safety feature that they all don't just unlock with the engine off and in Park. That way no one can simply jump in when you park.
