I'm going to change my 94 eddie b. to a 5speed what year or years can I get the pedals, trans amd any other stuff needed for the change. I'm going to put new clutch set, slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder. Also do I have to use a trans from a 4x4 or just remove the tail shaft and blot to the transfer case?
I am doing the same conversion and hopefully will write a conversion thread soon.
You will need:
*Transmission and shifter. Trans must be from a 4.0L engine, as the bolt patterns are different to the other engines.
*Pedals from a ranger, explorer, or bronco 2 with the "Explorer" dash. The 93-94 pedals are wider but they all will work.
*Trans wire harness
*Flywheel
*Master cylinder and tube
*PCM from any 94 4.0 Manual trans or a 93 4.0 with california emmisions (EGR) and manual trans. I have the part# somewhere.. I post it when I find it.
*Manual trans steering column and gauge cluster, this is optional; i wanted it to be as factory looking as it could be.
Its not a bad job, worst part is installing the pedals. There is very little room to work and i got mad and pulled the whole dash out for simplicity. I want to get this done by spring, its just taking me a while because funds are limited and i'm doing a bunch of other stuff as well.
Actually any 4.0L manual trans from 90 to about 05, i think. Whatever year the last 'old body' sport trac was built. Even some Aerostars were built with manuals, but i don't know if they were ever optioned that way with the 4.0L.
Even some 2.9L trannies will bolt up, but they were (Mitsubishi?) trannies put into the ranger and B2s. I think they may have been 4 speeds. You're better off going with the correct unit, the M5OD. There even was a version of the M5OD for the f150 pickup, but it will not bolt up to the V-6.
I would find the newest one you can get. These will have been built with the updated parts, if there were any. The only thing to match up will be the transfer case bolt pattern, I don't know how the bolt patterns differed for the later BW4405 t-cases. It could be the same, but I never have tried it.
