Autolamp/autodimming Mirror

Guys,

The AC comes on in every position except when switched to the dashboard vents or to the floor vents, and obviously to the off position. So, that may explain the fogging of your windsheild on the outside. I don't like this feature that Ford has given us. My old 92 explorer never turned the air on unless you pushed in the switch for it or turned the defrost on. So, with that said, I would switch and I am going to switch on mine, the AC at the heater controls. This will prevent the AC from turning on in almost every selected position of the ventilation selector.

actually AC is always active (even on your 92).... otherwise you'd get moisture on your windows like a lot of Japs get often times.... when they hit recirculate switch.

Think of rain... and that you don't run your AC but heater instead.... windows should get moist.... but don't.

AC cycles removing misture from air flowing into your truck...

Nope,

I beg to differ. If you look at the wiring diagram for either of the trucks, either the 92's or the 97's, you will see that it does not. You can even test it by watching the clutch and going through the different settings on your heater controls. The owners manual even says when the ac will come on. I read it in my 97's manual. The only time the ac is off is in the off position, the floor vent position, or the dashboard vents position.

Sounds like I didn't use my words properly... you are right... AC will cycle only in these situations... I knew that but simply used wrong words to describe it.

my bad,

I know this is an old thread, but maybe hoppy or big c can help me out. i have a 92, which all of you know didnt even come with any of this fancy RAP stuff, or headlamp relays. i did however purchase the auto mirror and console. well, buy reading all 9 pages, sounds like i need (2) 5 pin relays, and just spice in my mirror wire, and my head lamps and parking lights wires, correct? im really scared to jump into all the wiring, ofor fear of shirting something, or catching fire. thanks guy! thanks for any help!

Don't worry about shorting something out, just make sure you have replacement fuses on hand. That is what fuses are for so you don't cause fires. I laugh at guys that don't use them when wiring in new circuits. Yeah, that is all you have to do, just follow all the reply's in the thread and go for it. It isn't hard, the only thing that is hard is finding the coloured wires in the wiring harnesses. Just remember that the one you are looking for is usually the last one you look at. At least this is what has happened to me several times!!!

Good luck and enjoy the mirror. I love mine.

I wouldn't use that diagram. I don't know who sketched that one out, but there is no connection to terminal 87.

Here is how I did it. If this link doesn't work, go to page six of this message and you will see my sketch. I cannot post images so I had to get someone else to do it, that is why VBTruk posted it.

Good Luck.

heh, i sketched it out :p

ok, i redid the drawing according to your drawing. it was kidna hard to see, but let me know if this is right. Im gonna run the constant 12 volt off the constant 12v at the light switch. is this goin to be ok, as long as its the same gauge wire? if so, would i need to fuse it then? thanks a lot man!

ok, well, after recieveing my ford cd, fighting with my mother, getting kicked out, then having to apologize, i finnally got around to wiring in the autolamp feature of this mirror. well, i will play with it more tomorrow, but here is what is not working properly:

the delay deature will not kill the lights. i believe i read somewhere that you can have the delay for 2 seconds to three minutes. i had the slider all the way over to the left (2 seconds) and the lights stayed on for more then a minute. now, i know the sensors work, so im thinking either a wiring problem on my part, or the delay slider is broken. the headlights will go on and off with the button, but wont shut off after the engine is killed. any ideas? thanks a lot!
