I suppose this would go here or in audio but If I'm wrong mods please move it.

Anyway I want to hook up a small air pump I have and mount it in the back just for you know whatever.

Anyways it used to plug into the lighter socket but I cut that and stripped the wires and put some connectors on there. I tested it on the battery alone and it works fine. I just know where would be a good place to connect it to in the back. Trying to avoid running wires all the way from the battery to the back, although I can if worse comes to worse.

I have amp wires for a sub amplifier back there could I possible hook up the positive to that and the negative to the ground?

Got a 1st gen if that helps.

EDIT:
Finished installing heres pics!

You can ground anywhere back there. Just use a self tapping screw or use an existing bolt to attach your ground to the body.

I wouldn't use the power or ground for the amp if that is the factory amp. If this is an aftermarket amp you are talking about, go right ahead.

The pump likely has a high current draw. Using existing wires would burn them up. Run a heavy gauge back there. If the current draw is high enough you'll need to either upgrade your stock grounding wire in the engine bay, or run a return wire back to the battery.

You can buy heavy gauge double wire at Home Depot or Lowes by the foot. Run them in split loom.

Is this pump made to run off automotive power? Or are you using some sort of inverter?

It worked off his cigarette lighter, so I would assume that the 6 gauge or thicker wire run to the back for his amp would be more than enough to run it. A short ground to the body should be adequate. I don't see any reason he would need to upgrade the wiring if it worked well on his cigarette lighter.

If it were a larger 12V air compressor.... then I'd run a 0 gauge power wire back and and upgrade the grounds.

But, to the OP. If you are still using that amp, you either need another power wire, or you need to have the amp off when you are running your air compressor.

Hooked to the sub wire and grounded to a bolt under the back seat.

I also ran a switch so that I don't accidentally leave it on.

Worked out pretty nice, when my phone is charged up tomorrow I'll take some pics. I think its pretty cool and comes nice in handy if I catch a flat. I got slime too.
