average price for a/c charge

Whats the average price youve paid to have your a/c charged with freon?

If you do it yourself with a R-134 conversion kit, it'll cost $29.95 from Wal-Mart. It's real easy to do. Take your truck to a garage that can evacuate your system of R-19 (you should be able to have them do it just for getting your old R-19.). Then refill per package instructions. I just converted my wife's Firebird a couple of days ago and it works great!! Heckuva lot cheaper than getting a R-19 regcharge.

I believe Jeff means R-12 instead of R-19, but he is right on everything else. And if your house starts getting a little warm inside this summer, maybe some R-19 in the attic would help.

Definately do it yourself! Even with limited skills it is very hard to mess up and you could probably save enough to buy a set of Rancho shocks. I charged my wifes van a few days ago, it already has the R-134a, and I only needed 2 cans which cost $4.50 each. About 6 or 7 years ago, before I was enlightened, I took my car in to be charged and it cost me $120.00. I suggest going to a Wal-Mart ect. and looking at the conversion kit and read the instructions for better understanding of what we are telling you.

at the shop where I work we charge 19.95 labor and 11.95 per lb for R134a if it has R12 we change them over for aprox. $125 including the freon. You guys doing it yourself be careful and do not OVER charge it will make the system work just as if it were undercharged!

Someone told me that if there is any trace of the R-12 in the system yet.. and you put in the new R134 that it will blow up? is this true? and if mine is completely empty would I need to go to the shop for them to do anything for the conversion? or could I just go ahead and put in the new stuff and hope it doesnt leak anywhere?

I guess I found the answer to my question.. I went and and got a R134a kit from Wal-mart and it said it was a R12 changeover kit.. so I evacuated the R12 and then charged with a couple cans of the R134a and now it works great so far havent found any leaks.. but my moms has a leak on a connection not to far from where the low pressure connection is.. looks like maybe its just an O-Ring? and how do you get them connections apart?
