I'm thinking of getting a 1997+ with a 302 and want to swap the AWD to a Manul TC but maybe forgo the tone ring addition for the speedo and use a GPS based speedometer. Has anyone use a GPS speedo? If so how accurate are they?

Gps would likely be more accurate than the mechanical one, but I think the tone ring has other functions than just the speedo.

Hmm will have to reread the how to's again but I think the one guy was driving it with out his speedo and was didn't hear of any issues.

It's possible it's a non issue. I assumed the auto transmission used it in its shifting programming.

Ok just some research. Found a 1999 and 2000 302 Explorers, 150K miles but that's the lowest I've see here. from reading if I want to put in a BW4406 in the 1999-2001 models I don't have to worry about the VSS issues since in those its in the rear end?
