aww man my furst f......... up

Man.. this thread is great! How'd I miss it?

I was in a fender-bender once. $13.5k in damages to my X and totaled a tight-ass Ford Tempo ($1k :D ). If I didn't have insurance (or the bonehead who pulled out infront of me, actually) that would have been a lot of cash to shell out on repairs. Think about it. You pay $1500 a year for insurance. That's worth one small wreck every nine years or so. Thats a damn good deal. Imagine if you were to have a decent sized wreck. Say you total a BMW. There goes $54k (your insurance money for 36 years :D ) If this doesn't make sense its cause its 4am here in CA and I'm tired as hell.

I agree with wat you say.....if you don't have insurance, you just asking for trouble. Its just easy topay a lil now, instead of a lot later(no where have i heard that from?)!

**** way i see it he's independently wealthy! 12 bucks an hour 50 hours a week! When i was a kid i was ignorant too, then i went to the army and became a man like this guy should

One thing you may not be aware of is that if you're in an accident, and you don't have insurance. Even if the other guy caused the accident, say he rearends your X, if you don't have insurance, you're automatically at fault. The way the courts look at it is this. If you don't have insurance you shouldn't be on the road, hence if you weren't on the road the accident never would have happened... So with this way of looking at it, you're not only taking the chance that you don't hit someone, but you're also depending on them not to hit you...

And just for an example, my wife and I were rear ended April of 02, I'm still in therapy for my jaw, getting braces later this month and will have various other therapys and Dr's apts for the next 2-3 years, my medical bills are already over 25K, my wife's are over 15K... My wife was in therapy for over 8 months also but she wasn't as bad off as me... My truck was close to 4K in damages, he (I'm guessing here) totaled his dad's 67 Mustang (which was in excellent shape before the wreck from what I could tell)... Also my attorneys are asking for 50K in damages (on top of medical) for the change in our lifestyles, pain and suffering for just my wife... I imagine by the time I'm done they'll be asking for four or five times that ammount... I wasn't sue happy until I saw how much this little accident changed my life... I've been seeing at least one and up to 4 Dr's a week for over a year now!!! That a lot of time away from work, a lot of pain, and a huge dent in my way of life...

Now granted, I won't really see that much money... But can you imagine if a jury said sure give it to him, you'd be talking close to $300,000... Even making $20 an hour (40K a year) that would take a long time to pay off... And if you got insurance my rates wouldn't go up as quick either...

Thanks...

OH...MY...GOD!!! he lives in the same city as me! please, kamelion, get some insurance before you go out and kill me, my wife, my mother, my inlaws, or my friends. don't be so immature and cavalier about this. i understand that you prolly don't want to back down from your argument at this point, but please get the insurance!

note to self: watch out for all '99 xlt's, he could be anywhere...

I'm just as worried as you are.

Anyways all I can say is I hope that when you get in your accident it is with something like a tree so that all you have to pay for is your car and the damage to the tree and grass. But at the same time the cops will slap you with a nice hefty fine for driving without insurance.
Also as someone said earlier, if you've had your X for 3 days and you already drove it into a ditch then I would say it will only be a short time until you get into a bigger accident.

Texas law requires you to have auto insurance, and if you still owe money on your vehicle, your lender demands it. This publication provides answers to frequently asked questions about auto insurance.source: http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/consumer/auto.html
If you got any sort of loan for the vehicle then when you get busted for no insurance the lender has the option of taking your X
Now if you want to drive without insurance I recommend you goto Mexico. Down there it is not required.
