Axle regearing

Ok my bro is in the process of getting new gears for his 8.8 and dana 35. He plans on regearing wi 4.56. The question is will he have to get new carriers for the new gears. I have heard that it may be neccesary to get a larger carrier to fit the lower gears.

What year X would help, because if it's pre '95 he can't get 4.88s. As for the larger carrier the 8.8 is fine, the only thing I've seen on the D35 is if it had smaller than 3.55 stock gears you "might" have to change carriers. Since the Xs came with 3.73s stock (I think) you should be fine there too.

Ok then if he's buying gears him self he just needs to make sure he gets the TTB set that is reverse cut. I also edited my previous statement it's 4.88s that the TTB cant get.

No carrier breaks on the 1st gen D35 and none on the 8.8 either.
