My front end is leaking and whining, I want to rebuild it with more efficient gearing, but for now just taking it out so it doesnt do anymore damage to itself. i understand that 4x4's require matching gears, that means i also plan to do the rear ends gears too.

dropping the dana, Is this something that can be done by 1 person? can it be done in a day? any special tools?

as far as gears go, i'd like to swap in 3.55's, i know i'd need to get a programmer or a flasher to make the speedo right, but is 3.55 to steep for a 4.0 SOHC motor? i know towing will suffer (i dont have anything to tow, besides u-haul wont let me have a trailer anyways), but if the explorer is going to be constantly struggling to maintain speed in normal headwinds on the interstate then i'll go for the 3.73 set.

thanks in advance
