Anyone using one? What benefits have you noticed? Would you recommend one? How is the install and where did you purchase yours?

I bought mine off another member for $25 and install help. It's fairly easy to install, even easier on a 'stock' truck than mine. The shifts are firmer and gears are held a bit longer. Though now that I got my tranny rebuilt with a real shiftkit the electronic one isn't nearly as noticable.

On a stock tranny, it really helps. It has 3 modes, 0, 1, and 2. I usually used '1', using '2' at the track. The only major problem with this unit is heat. The resistor box generates a huge amount of heat. I got some old 486 processor heatsinks and some heatsink adhesive. That and some electrical tape and it was much better. But I've heard of small fires starting with these units. As long as you're careful though, you'll be fine ;)

It works great on my Mountaineer. The "soccermom-mobile" that is getting used as a truck by me needed it since I hated the sluggish shifts all the time. It's more fun to drive when in town; plus when pulling trailers or anytime for that matter, it doesn't cause the transmission to slip as much, reducing heat. I usually drive on 1. I'll occassionally turn off in bad slippery conditions as the shift could cause control loss, or I put it on 2 when at the track or when pulling really heavy stuff. I haven't had the heat problem with the unit, though.

Where did you mount the switch?

...DOES ANYONE HERE HAVE ONE FOR SALE, OR CAN WE BUY ONLINE...???

THANKS IN ADVANCE,

JOHNNY V.

I like where you put the switch. so did you just drill a hole in the firewall? also is it a strait plug in install? are you talking about heat build up on the trans itself?

You can use an existing firewall grommet to run the wires. You may need to enlarge it with a utility knife a bit. It's 2 (or 3?) wires that splice into wires going to the computer. Though the early model 91-94 one is different, it also includes a vacuum line. Make sure you get the one for the early model.
