Back Hatch Door

I got a 98 Sport. The back hatch wont open. The window part will, but the hatch wont lift. I guess the cable or linkage is broken. Anyway I want to know how to open it so i can work on it. Any
one had this prob or any ideas ?

I have had to do that on numerous vehicles. Having been inside of many a doors and lift gates makes things easy for me.

You are going to have to be agressive. If it is cold where you are DONT try this. Pop the rear glass and climb inside. The interrior trim panel has more give than you might think. Be gentle but forceful. Pull it back all the way across the back. You will have about two or three inches to look down inside there. With a long screw driver you should be able to get down to the latch and poke the release. Look for the part that the linkage goes to.
