Within the past two years it seems that the reception on my stock radio is deteriorating. The static is very bad at times, sometimes I cannot even get a station in.

Thinking it was the stock unit gone bad I have switched head units twice, both with new aftermarket quality brands I.G. Alpine, JVC.

I know the reception is not as bad since I can get the stations clear in the same area's from a another car I own.

I checked and know the antenna wire is hooked up, what else can I check? Grounding straps and I believe there is some kind of piece ford uses in the engine compartment to reduce noise interference form ignition components.

Any help is kindly appreciated

I am sure someone here must have had a reception issue. This one is not with the radio, as I have had three different units in the vehicle.

I know there are grounding straps and other devices in the explorer to enhance reception can someone help with this?

I thought there was some type of resistor in the engine bay to block RF noise?

Maybe check out the antenna, ground, and the wiring to and from.

Thanks I will do that. I know there are at least two grounding straps, maybe thats it. :chug:

Im starting to have this same problem too..

I had the same problem on my 1996 Ranger, changed radios, no improvement.

Now, 1996 Explorer, same problem. Mostly isolated to the AM band.

There is a little noise supressor attatched to the coil pack(s), with a single wire plug. It gets it's ground thru the coilpack screw. I wonder if they ever fail?

I ran a 10 gauge ground wire, from coilpack bracket to the radiator support.

Just a thought.

Interesting thread I like the idea about the 10 gauge grounding strap can you elaborate on this or post a picture? Did running the new ground clear up your reception?

Also I wonder if the noise supressor on the coil pack you spoke of can be replaced?

No, it was mainly for performance-grounding the coilpacks was my objective
I have no radio interference right now---I have no antenna!!

All I did was drill and tap a small hole into coil bracket- 10 guage wire with o lug at each end, secure to radiator mount and coil bracket.

I would think the supressor is replacable--
