I just ordered an X-Cal 2 for my '06. I'm getting new tires next weekend (32's) so I need to re-program the computer for the speedo.

I am anxious to see how the tranny shift points are reprogrammed - I don't particularly care for how it shifts now.

The programs I requested are 87 Performance, 89 Torque, 93 Torque. I think I will run the 87 P most of the time. Next long trip towing my boat, I will run the 89 T - it will be interesting to compare gas mileage. (I've gotten 20 mph while towing the boat!)

...This should prove to be interesting..

Oh?

...I really don't think anyone else on here has test results for a Ranger...:biggthump

...I am interested in both the performance and the torque difference although, I might have opted for an 87 economy tune over the 93 tune myself..:dunno:

...I am interested to see what your results turn up as there are no tunes for my 95...:(

I don't anticipate using the 93 T tune - there isn't an 87 economy tune. Doug doesn't have an 87 Torque tune, either, hence the 87 Performance selection.

I am anxious to see/feel the results. The SOHC motor has some guts - it should run really good with the massaged tune, taking advantage of the mods I have made.

Of course, you realize the main reason I am doing this is to correct the speedo from the 32s (yeah, right!)

I have an X-cal and I did keep track when I first got it with an 89 Performance tune that I could get about 1-2 mpg better (I also ran ethanol so the difference in price is negligible) but now I have 4.56's and my mileage has suffered some. BTW, I have the 89 performance, 91 Torque, and 91 Performance.

Overall, I like the chip from Bama but I would really like to try tunes from Henson Performance. However, no more money on the truck for a while.

How useful is the performance tune on a 4WD? Most of the time, my motor is spinning less than 3000 rpm (the threshold of performance tune.)

I don't like the performance as much for the slow stuff but the performance tunes seem to work better on the highway since the SOHC is kinda a rev happy engine. I have LiveLink but I have not really had a chance to play with it. I will say it did help pull together some other mods like the CAI, gears, and tires.

You can modify your shiftpoints and the stiffness of your shifting. I've got the X-Cal 2 and love this thing. I has improved power, response and mileage. Well worth the $$$ spent on it.

i wonder i james henson has an 87 torque tune
