Battery and oil gauge

Hello, I recently bought a used 2004 explorer 4L v6 and was wondering how accurate the the battery and oil gauges are supposed to be. My gauges will go all the way down when the explorer is off but when its on the gauges are always at the same spot Picture

These type of gauges never tell the whole story. They are either on or they are off. And their normal sitting position is halfway when the vehicles on
