Well, I need new battery cables.
Went to start, click,click...lights,all power fine. Just not getting to the starter. Battery tests okay.
I did a search last night on this topic (with ALOT of hits, another weak spot), and want to get an update from you guys.
Seems llike the early models was a @#$% to change (the general consensus was @4hrs !!)
Are the 95+ models any easier?
Also, everyone recommends the GENUINE FORD product cables to replace b/c of the fit and makes the install easier. But pricie! @$73 !! (NO WAIT, THEY ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL !!!) hhmmm IAC, Sway bar links, etc.
Please respond, I got a stranded kid at school, and I want to know if I should make a road trip or have the local Ford Dealer do it. If it is a matter of $75 versus $200, I will make the road trip.
Merry Christmas to all.
Thnx.

Well, I can give you what I know based off my 91...my cables were fine and I had the problem wheeling and I got that click....but everything worked....We found it to be a simple case of corrosion and loose battery terminals...I'd say clean them really well and tighten em down good....This is free to do and simple, so worth a shot...may save yourself some money.

thnx. That may very well be it, b/c this same thing happened about a month ago, and he had it jumped and not until last nite did it happen again. I think the act of clamping on the + post gave it enuff contact to last a little while.
Sure beats putting in new cables, but I will have to check it good when he comes home, if he can get it started. I told him to check and wiggle the cables, especially the + cable and let me know.
thnx again

I had almost the same prob on my '94. Turned the key got a pop then nothing. No light , no radio, no start, nothing. I checked the cables and found the problem to be dirty Cables. I cleaned them of with baking soda and a brush, Also put some dielectric grease on them. Problem solved.
BTW I also put some of that dielectric grease on the relay for the fuel pump. it helped with that problem also.

Replacing the positive cable on my '91 Explorer was a breeze. I just cut the terminal end off of the cable, loosened all clamps and connectors, and pulled really hard. It came off, and I routed the cable following the same path, tightened it all up, and it started like a champ. Fortunately, I only have 90000 miles (working on clutch right now -- a bugger with that giant transfer case).
