I have a 99 Explorer 4.0 sohc and been having a hard time starting when it gets warm.

I need to replace the cable ends the ones to the battery terminals.

Should I replace the whole cable or can I replace the ends?

And what kind should I use..

While you can replace just the cable ends, available at any auto parts store, I would advise replacing the complete cable. With all the draw on the battery from all the electronics in today's vehicles, having good connections is very important. Also the cables can corrode along the entire length. New cables, while more expensive, can cost less in the long run.

A few months ago, when I put in my Optimum Yellow Top, I replaced both cables. You can buy the kit at Summit Racing. Looks real nice.
